radio shopping

#384394

Post by Mjr Mongo »

ok guys its been awhile and now I want to have a radio in my 16 mustang gt.
budget is around 300$ just for radio,I want to shoot skip,ya know pull up on a hill and see what I can hear and talk to.
radio needs to be small,I have seen the small 10 meter from stryker that fits under the seat and I like that idea but dont want to sacrifice performance for it.
that said I have had strykers in the past and liked both. I have a texas ranger that the radio will be pushing, and ant. will be mag mounted.
I also want to purchase it peaked and tuned, and moded if it needs to be to talk on cb and side band.
I dont want to sound like I am smarter than I am cuz I really only know the basics but recent life changes have sent me seeking a hobby.
thanks ahead of time!

The regular CB channels are in the 11m band, (all 10m conversion radios will need to be modded for the CB channels), a regular CB radios won't have to have the radio modded for the extra channels (frequencies). If you are getting it from Joe's I would let them do an alignment and a small boost on the modulation, that way it will be on frequency when using SSB. If all you want is a AM radio you really don't need a tune and alignment.

@Mjr Mongo, I removed those **Non Sponsor* links and changed them to pics. Your original start post said you were on a budget of $300, both of those radios are way above that. I would suggest looking in our sponsor's site, http://www.*** Not a Sponsor ***/, he has the best prices around the internet.

I'm looking forward to using this Pres. McKinley as well. Intend to have it set up as a base in the next two weeks.

Now, an additional question. If I were to use a 6 pin to 4 pin jump cord, will all the proper effects of the President be possible and the effort of a power microphone all be intact?

Thanks in advance for the shared thought patterns,

Blue Ox2

I think I figured my own answer. I need to get the power mic I want to use and have it wired with a President connector. I,m looking to have this issue dealt with through online purchases.

Joe's was great setting me straight and being honest about the plan I tried to build. He is a great person to work with for quality gear.

Thanks Ryan.
