A-99 and Interference
A-99 and Interference
I was just talking to someone on the radio. He said that the A-99 is known to have problems with putting out interference. He said they have problems with coming through radios and tv's it you put an amp on them. I haven't heard any talk about that here on the forum. What have you heard on this?
Anytime you add an amp you can cause problems with TV's ect,,,its not the A99, if you have problems just add a TVI low pass filter after the amp, I run a 300 watt amp and don't bother anything, using an A99, I use to have an old ground plane antenna, and ran a Palomar tube amp, made the phones around here a mess, LOL,,,use to tell the girl next door to get off the phone, LMAO
Yes. And no, it shouldn't affect your receive. BigBopper is right on. The amp typically just amplifies harmonics emitted from the radio. First thing to do is make sure you aren't splattering on your own stuff. If you are, chances are good you are splattering on your neighbors, too. No need to ask them until your own stuff isn't being affected IMO.Mr. 9k9 wrote:Can a low pass filter be used in a mobile setup, and does it affect your recieve at all?

I did much research on RFI years ago and how to clean it up. That's part of the reason I make sure all my equipment is grounded well...especially on the base.
You da' man Bopper! :Peace!:
My mobile bleeds all over the surround sound system in my house. from a block away! My old lady KNOWS when I'm coming home! and so do the neighbors I can Drive past the piggly wiggly in town and talk to all the people in the store. "Customers with food stamps please step to the back of the line"
My old A-99 was a bleed stick. But it was the way I was running it. I had the antenna on a balcony in a second story apt. RCI-2950 and a killerbee 250HDV. bled on everything! TV,computer, stereo, answering machine. when I moved into a house. I put it on the roof with the ground radial kit . all I got then was a few audio lines in the TV.

I don't know if it was the ground radial that stoped the interference or just that it was higher up. I put it on a 10 ft tripod 10ft mast and triple shielded coax. I know I could talk DX alot better with the ground radial kit. could talk DX without it...but much better with it. Instead of going to the neighbors and asking them ..here's what you should do. get on ch 19 turn over the 10KHz switch ch19Alpha and tell every one where you are and if your interfering with there tv to please contact you personally. you go door to door there`s bound to be some jerk that will start to imagine TVI. My friend had a neighbor that would have interference when he wasn't home and would blame him.

That's what I always did. I know a ham radio operator out in the county here bought a house then had 4 towers set up in his yard. The towers didn't even have antennas on them yet and he had neighbors complaining about bleed over on there TV.LOL they just saw the 100ft towers an knew it had to be him. there in every neighbor hood!

The 95T and the 4600 both look like awesome radios. 205 watts out of the connex. Tough call.... the Galaxy has some really nice features but Mr. RadioActive says the 4600 will slap the 95T around like a wet noodle.
My personal opinion is that the Connex 4600 would make a better mobile than the Galaxy 95T, but I would rather have the Galaxy for a base because of the features.

Ditto on the going door to door thing! Too many nuts just looking 4 something to moan & groan about! But the guy that imagines tvi would be the last on my worry list. Bad scenario would be someone sue you over their pacemaker or something shorting out! Don't go looking for trouble, it can find you easy enough if need be! One motto I try to live by is " If you really must go hunting bears, be prepared to be caught by one!"
