Base Antennas besides A-99 Imax 2000

Just wondering what you think would be a good base antenna? I already have the A-99. Don't include things like 100 foot towers with a set of moonrakers. Just a good overall base antenna for someone on a budget.

You have a good base antenna. What more are you looking for ?

Hight is might ! I am raising my A99 another 30 feet next week and I will see how well that works.

Mr RA has some base antennas listed on his site.

Can't raise mine up that high. 35 feet will probably be about it.

I'm not planning on getting rid of it already. I was just looking out for some options for the future for something a bit better that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I talked skip today on my A99, it's on a 30 ft pole, with a Cobra 148, and a 1 pill amp, things were right today, there are better antennas for sure, but the A99 is good standard antenna

Oh yeah! I'm not getting rid of it by any means. Best antenna I've ever owned! Especiall since its my first base antenna (besides that horseshoe steak Workman Saturn). I just need to get it up a tad higher. Its at around 26-27 feet now. Unfortunately the temps supposed to drop to like 3 degrees again this weekend. Just have to wait a bit longer...

Well, being you can't raise your antenna, and don't want something like a moonraker, you are pretty much limiting your options IMO. But you could do something like a V-Quad, Y-Quad, PDL, simple quad (Signal Engineering), or even a 3 element yagi. Short of doing a beam I'm not sure you'd gain much over your A99.

Indeed, height is might. You'll always be limited (IMO) no matter what antenna you find or do. If a simple ground plane is all you are after, you have a decent performer. Just my $.02

Agreed, unless your willing to pay for a expensive 5/8th wave, like a I-10K or Coily you have a good antenna. Maybe you can add a ground plane kit if you just want different.
