Predator 10K v Wilson 5000
Hmmmm, I appreciate the info. I dont mind ugly if I get reasonable performance upgrades, I do have ladders and sometimes stacked and I do pull several trailers none of which is pretty. Overall though with this info and looking at where I go it looks like the Wilson will be a more versitile option.
The hight issue I think becomes my real deciding factor. I drive into construction sites and here in GA that means usualy through the trees. I'm thinking that the coils, rigidity, and hight of the 10K may become too much of a headache than I need. I have a job to go to friday and I remember the last time I went there I hooked some small branches on my ladders, can you see what would happen with the coils 2' up? I think if my vehicle was primerilly on the highway I would go with the 10K but my applications needs the Wilson.
Thanks for the help, Good info !

Over all height between the Predator 10K, Vs. the Wilson 5000, regardless of the shaft length of the 10K, will be close to the same.
Longer shafts on the 10K, like the 22" shaft and the 27" shaft, will have shorter stinger's after tuned...The shorter shaft 10K's will have longer stinger's, which will flex more if you hit something. (like a tree branch)
Now..."IF" your looking for a even shorter, over-all height 10K, then you would want the "Dual Coil 10K".
The second coil will reduce the over-all height, without sacrificing performance. There are two different Dual Coil 10K's to chose from. The "New Designed Dual Coil 10K" uses Coils with a extra turn in the coils which lowers the stinger height about 6" or more, than the original Dual Coil 10K...Both are available...

? Sure they do. On "some" Vehicles, you may not be able to get swr as low, as you can with the taller shafts. And then on some vehicles you cant run the taller shafts either...Mr.RadioActive wrote:Umm shorter shafts dont work on roof mount antennas. 22" or 27"
Case in point. On my Suburban, I run a 27" shaft Dual Coil 10K, with totally flat swr.
But on my Chevy Cargo Van, I run a Single Coil 10K, with a 9" shaft, and get same results on my swr reading, as I do on my Suburban...
Now in most case's, your right. The taller shaft 10K shafts work the best, but depending on how, and what it's going on, as to wheather or not it will work well...

Sounds like your refering to the "stinger" rather than the shaft. "Shaft's" wont give at all! They will either break, bend, or rip-off! This is why I was saying if height is a issue, try the shorter shaft lingths, with longer stingers.
The shaft is the part of the antenna, below the coil. (on Predators and Mr.Coily's, and Monkey Mades...)
Kale has also been experimenting with a 10K, that "Has no shaft". Least not much of one. It has just a 1" shaft, which basicly puts the coil at the bottom of the antenna, similar to a Wilson base loaded antenna...Not sure how they worked out thou, havent talked to him lately to see if they worked good or not...
