Want a homebrew project

#178142

Post by Trouble »

Anyone got plans / designs on building a home-made tube amp?
I'm not familiar with them but do appreciate what I hear on them.
Thanks.

BTW, don't want something that will kill me, shock me, or blow me up! LOL

I think it would be better off buying one of the kit you find in the ham magazine, then mod for 11 meter.
It's faster that way anyway.

I've seen old Heathkit's on eBay where you buy the kit and put it together.

There's also pill amp kits you can buy and put together. The Heathkit would be worth the money, but a pill kit seems like a waste of time. The pill kits cost about $20 less than buying an assembled amplifier, and it would take a first timer like 4+ hours to put a pill kit together and then possibly have problems. I love projects but my time is worth more than $20.

There's other kits out there too, but I can't recall the names. I get some QST magazines in the mail and someone is always selling some type of transceiver kit or amp kit.

There's tons of little projects/kits on the market. Check this site out: [Please login or register to view this link]

This sounds like a good project I will be watching this thread. I have been looking to get a small tube amp for my base to get over the mountains.

Those build kits are like CBs, only a few are worth having. Do your home work before pulling the trigger.
