cheap fix for Compaq 2700

This may work on other laptop's but I know it works on the compaq presario 2700. I had an overheating issue with it and after about 30 minutes it would shut itself off due to the microprocesser was getting to hot. I took and done research on it and found that this laptop among many others have a issue with the heat sink unit separating from the mother board and not allowing it to cool and in turns it shuts off when the processor reaches 95 degrees C as a safety to the computer. I took my laptop apart and sure enough the heat sink had indeed pulled apart from the mother board. I asked around and was told "you can solder it back in but 99% of the time you will damage the mother board and it will need to be replaced" or "the mother board is trash, you need to buy a new one which has the heat sink on it already" then I found a "kit" that tells you how to fix the problem but they want $100 for it. Well I was looking and I found that all I needed was a "shim" to go between the keyboard and the heat sink to press it back onto the mother board to allow it to pull the heat away. I found a piece of cardboard, about the thickness of a credit card, and folded it in half I then taped it to the heat sink. when I put the keyboard back on the laptop and put the screws back into the case it pulled everything tight and now it has the heat sink pressed back to the board and it runs 100% cooler the fan hardly runs more than 30 seconds now and it does not turn off anymore. I left it turned on for 2 days just to make sure it worked before I posted it. If anyone has a similar issue with overheating laptops you may want to check this and see if its something you can do rather than pay a computer shop $100's of bucks to fix it.

might as well get a new one... i don't think there's away to fix the processor

the processor is not damaged. it was just over heating because the heat sink had separated. computer is fixed by puttin the spacer/shim in there to press it back to the mother board. no since in spending lots of money on a new computer when free cardboard fixes the problem. if you have $1000 to dump into a new laptop by all means do so but some of us dont and need ways to get all the goodie out of our junk lol.
