Commuting
So I go to school about 30 or so minutes from my house. I recently put my radio back in my car and IM right back at it again. Although I am now seeing that my antenna sucks most of the time. Currently I have a 16 or so inch radioshack antenna. I usually place it on the driver side, near the back on my roof. Idk if its because I should have it more centered or what. It won't matter in a couple of months because I am saving up for a Wilson 1000 as I have been discussing in other forums.
Atleast I know the radio and antenna still work:)
Im just hoping that the antenna will work with the radio I have currently which is a generic RadioShack one.

if it's a CB radio, then any antenna with a standard cb (PL-259) connector will work. I think I can safely say that if your antenna is only 16", then it doesn't matter where you put it, it's just gonna suck.
I'm thinking it's probably one of the ones that has a 4" magnetic base with a small spring then 8" or so of mast, then a black plastic oval (coil) in the center, then a little whip out of that. If I'm right, you're in for a surprise when you buy a Wilson 1000. LOOKOUT! Someone might actually answer you.
We've all been there, and if you make improvements on your system on whatever time-frame makes sense for your situation, you'll be happy with the results. And it's fun to make things perform better. The best thing to do is to read up on this and other good forums. Sparkycbshack.com has a message board and an "ask the tech" section just chocked full of good info to learn that will help you make an informed decision.

well, recently, and depending on the time of day, the channels have been pretty busy with some skip (DX) rolling so we're all lucky to get much unless someone's close.
But it does feel good to reach over and hit that switch that transforms a 4W-20W radio into a 125W-400W radio and then call out. Sometimes they trip all over each other just to holler back. And other times not...you just never know.
