3' fiberglass which one?

#21573

Post by herbman »

I have to go with a 3' so I can fit in/out of my garage without moving antenna every time.

I've sort of gotten set on the Everhardt fiberglass antennas from reading the other thread but they are turning out to be hard to get up here in Canada, and shipping/import fees arent always cool either to get from U.S. I've seen Francis, Firestik, and some cobra ones but I don't think they are as good, right? Is the extra hassle to get a Tiger worth it?

Herbman,
Just be careful of SWR's if your going to do big watts. I recently had a shop install a Wilson Silver Load 3ft on my Dad's truck for the same reason. A garage.

I am about to post my SWR findings on the Everhardt SOTT-5 ft that I just got, and am about to either, sell, give, or go fishing with.

You and your fishing poles...
I wish I could disagree.
I talked to a guy yesterday that was using a 98 inch long fiberglass antenna! He said he liked it very much, but it got strange looks from people. He said he was pushing 1600 watts!

I still got some firestix and K40 fiberglass whips, I just have had no luck whatsoever with um.

Ya git burned enough ya quit !

But, I think the wilson 2000 trucker is not working as well as I hoped. I have a preditor 10K on order. Will test it against my base when I get it. Will find out for sure one way or another.

ended up getting the wilson silver load 3', tuned down to around 1.5... fits into the garage with about 2mm clearance lol

haven't had too much time on the road yet to test it out... although initially running my x200 full blast seemed okay...

as an alternative, you could try one of these k400 mounts. You can lay the antenna down when you go into the garage. The only thing is it may be a pain having to raise and lower the antenna every time.

herbman...Like the way you mounted the antenna! On the fender like that.

I have a Ford E450 Box Van, that I had been trying to mount the antennas on the mirror's. (2-17" Predator 10K's, co-phase set-up)

Thought I had everything working great, But then started having issues with grounding. The Ford mirror's would not ground good at all, no mater how many ground straps I ran.

So ended-up, having to make my own mount, to use on the front fender like you did.

Right now, I'm running a experimental Predator 10K DX antenna! Sense I have a 10' Box, on the back of the Van, the over-all height of my antenna, is not a problem. Cant park this truck in a garage anyway!

The height of this Predator 10K DX antenna, is over 7' tall...And so far, is one of the best antennas I have used...Just got to get some skip in here, to really find out what it's going to do...

These antennas aren't available yet. But could be soon...Pending on whether or not, it works better in DX, than the other Predators...

do you have a link for those and have you seen one up close ?
Wonder if it could take having a preditor on it?
