A motor maul is a way of getting high amps, with a standard alternator system. Alot of the big watt guys, dont use motor mauls. Use 911 in Mt Pleasant SC for example. People travel to him from everywhere to get alts installed. But these guys are running 400 amps plus for big boxes like 16 pills plus. Its pretty easy to get 200 amp alternators for most cars/trucks that people are going to use the watts in. My 200 amp delco replacement alt cost $189 with a lifetime warranty.

If for your car/truck you just cant get a highoutput alternator for, then a motor maul maybe your last result. They are great if you run a 80 amp alt and just have no way of getting a big alt. 200 amps really isnt alot of power but can run most 8 pills, and alot not all 12 pills.

If your serious about doing big watts, 16 pill boxes plus. Most high watt guys get custom alt setups. If your paying for a big box, you should never mind the added cost to get it done right! But if all else fails then a maul maybe the only way for you!

motor maul is baslicly a big backwords relay, when your not keyed up its switched over to your cars electrical system charging the batery(s) you have hooked up to it, when you TX the motormaul switches off your cars electrical system and runs your boxes off that baterys so the high draw needed to run the amps dosnt come from your cars electrical system, newer cars this is a good thing becouse a. the ecu requires a stedy voltage and b.eather there is no upgrade for the aults or there isnt enough room for one or enough room to install a secound one. look @ 4545's dodge neon hes running a nice big box with a 4cyl car! he has 2 1200ca ups baterys ran in perilllel hooked up to the motor maul, so he has more than enough amps to run the boxes whil still keeping the stock aultanator. hope that helps

Oh Hi-tech made me think of something there is a advantage to a maul, since you can volt it up! Also yup if your running a mudduck mobile then a maul can be a asset. But having 4 batteries in the back of a neon must look funny!
