I have always liked the RK 56 better than the 636 ...however it has alot to do with your voice, the 636 is better with some people , but the rk 56 it a better sounding mic with my voice
Well, how's this for a monkey wrench?.... I have been told that my General Lee sounds better with the stock mic than with the 636L. Your guess is as good as mine. Even so, I still use the 636.
I usually use the Astatic 575M6 (creme of the crop $$$), but I often swap out for the RK 56. It's fun! (very hot swing, but a little touchy, nice feel)
I seldom ever connect the Astatic 636L's anymore.
I was told to try the Stock General Lee mic, I did, then I was told to put it away.

If my Astatic 575M6 would break, it would be hard to justify the $100.00 or so to get another one. I would probably experiment with other mic elements in the 636L and D104.
I read a note about putting a Heil element in a D104M6 that has kept me curious.
You probably know this, could a studio quality microphone element work in a handheld frame?
The best radio I ever heard was a base station with a studio type microphone. course the guy had an old radio announcer voice to drive it...
Well, I have heard of some of those swapps and with some good reports. I pulled a stunt when I first hooked up my base. I have a Audio Technica Studio mic going into a ART TPS II Tube preamp into a DBX 266XL Compressor/gate into an Alesis Quadravirb 2 into a Yamaha mixer and into the radio. I had a feedback problem and since I had a silver eagle commin I didnt try to problem solve. But the one guy I talked to said it was killer sound ! he liked it.

Phaze,
Have you been drinking?
Sounds great, but I am not familiar with that language. Maybe an Astatic 575M6 isn't so expensive after all...
