RCI 2950 and Galaxy 2547
Hi folks,
I am Bill from Ohio. Is the RCI 2950 a 10 meter radio or can it be a CB also?
What is involved in the frequency conversion if necessary.
As for the Galaxy 2547 Base station, will drifting of freq. be a problem on that base? I read a lot of posts on here critical of the Galaxy radios because of drift. Anyone have a Galaxy base that would like to comment?
Thanks, Bill

Bill,
I'm no radio cop but "letter of the law" the 2950 would be illegal to use on 11 meters. Not a big issue though. The feds enforce those statutes as well as they enforce the immigration laws

Re: RCI 2950 and Galaxy 2547
greetings i use the 2547 galaxy base. ine at first starts alil off freq. but after 15 to 20m it gets back on freq. though i can use the clarifier to get back on freq. its not bad for me realy. ssb though is alil diffrent though for me. it tends to drift while i talk or keyup off by a few ticks, which some tell me i sound alil off. so just using for am is great and the slight drift on am isn,t bad. but ssb. i would sugest geting it aligned and tuned good by a good tech will help tons on ssb. but i do love the features it has like the gnf and freq counter, plus power etc features.
for some it is fine and others will like me try and get it fixed lol. overall i love mine and it was worth the money i spent on it. i wish you well and much better results. blessings always.

The 2950 is a great radio, but it is a CB on steroids in my opinion, just because it will operate on 10m it is not a HAM radio. I have a 2547 that is located in my shack, when the room is cold the radio will take several minutes to warmup and will start high off freq and slowly move down. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to warm the room and the radio. After warming up the radio stays on freq.

Re: RCI 2950 and Galaxy 2547
Hi willyp001
The 11 meter conversion would be needed for the 2950. It is simply, although many sellers will do the conversion for free. The 2547 and the 959 DX are the same radio. The 959 drifts too much for me in the winter because it is a mobile and the temperature can be 40 degrees different from morning to evening around here. You would only notice this on SSB.
The 2547 is usually in a temperature controlled room, and drifting after it warms up is not that big of an issue. The 2547 can also be converted for channels.
Respectfully,
