Entry Point on 91 Box style S-10

#25157

Post by junkyarddog »

I have a Cobra 18 Weatherband, and a Wilson "Little Wil" antenna. The problem is, I have it running through the back sliding glass window, I'm am afraid of that pinching the coax. Does anyone know where an entry point is on that style of S-10. I'd prefer not to drill any holes.

P.S.: What do y'all think about my setup?

Most vehicles have some covers under the body that can be used. If you can find one, take it off, cut a slot for the coax to pass and reinstall with a little silicone.

Take a pix of the rig when you get a chance. Sounds like you have something to have fun with.

I have my coax running through the vent window on my truck also I have not seen any pinching on the coax. the gasket seal on your window will help prevent that. for short term you should be fine going through the window but it takes away on appearence. I still need to figure out how i want to run my coax instead of through the window. So much crappy weather in my area I still havent found a perm install location for my amp.(sigh...one of these days)

You may have luck with running the coax down the back of the cab, between the cab and the bed, then underneath, and up through one of the removable plugs under the cab.

By my experience, a Wilson 1000 mag mount with its longer whip will improve your transmit and receive by 20% or more over the mini wil.

If your radio is not yet "peaked and tuned" try to get that done. Ask here for recommended techs. That can easily be a 20% improvement.

If you are still using the stock microphone, consider an aftermarket mic.
Ask for details. The right mic can significantly improve the outgoing audio sound to others.

An external speaker is a nice improvement for your listening pleasure. The Uniden Bearcat ESP-12 is a very nice improvement for $15.00.

If when your ready to dump some Ben Franklins, there's the step up to big chassis radios, and amps.

Ask and think first, and leave the regret and lost money to those that don't know about this forum yet. :Peace!:

I seen the removable plugs underneath the cab, I just don't have a grommet to fit there yet. I am running the stock mic because my power mic is messed up and the Cobra Weatherband 18 is a good radio for beginners, I am getting it off my uncle so it should be in good shape.

I ran my coax down and under the cab . found few pop out plug's and used the smallest hole just big enough to fit the pl-259 through . but my truck is a ext cab so it's run under the back carpet and then under the seat and to the radio .

My S-10 is not an Ex-cab but i do have the removable plug, I'll find the smallest one and then seal it up with some silicon I guess.

Thats a fine idea but make sure you have every thing exact before you seal it check your make sure your coax is lined out and all. there is one of those plugs behind the seat in your truck as well it should be closer to the frloor but it is there I just went over and looked at the guys next door. You should be able to just cut a small cross in and push the end of the coax through that way you dont have to mess with silicone.

I popped out the plug last night after church, and ran my coax through that. I cut a hole out in the carpet and ran it on through that, because where that plug was , I'd have to take the seat out. I bent the plug (which is all steel) just enough so that it wouldn't cut my coax and then silicon-ed it up, that shouldn't give me no problems, I'll run the rest of it under the carpet later on, when i get everything right where i want it so its all cool.
