Mobile Antennas
Mobile Antennas
Hey guys quick question for ya, I am thinking of changing antenna's and wanted to see what your opinions are.....Currently I am running a single Wilson 4' Silverload mounted on the bed rail, and I am wondering if I would see a big difference in rx and tx if I switched to a Wilson 5000 MAG mount? I know I should run my predator but I just dont like the looks of it on my vehicle, I love the performance of the predator but....So what do you all think is better?
Wilson 5000 mag
Wilson 4' Silverload
I am getting ready to start running a lil bit of heat but no more than a 400-500 watts or so.
Thanks
One of these days I will be satisfied lol

Wait a month?
If you can wait a month or so I'll be going from a Magnet Mount 4' Firestik II to Rooftop Mount Wilson 5000, that should be a pretty appropriate change for you. I'm sure I'll comment on what I find once I get the change-over done.
I'll even be running the SWP Galaxy 99v.

soon as i get the cash I'm going to get a wilson 5000 . i don't want to buy a high end antenna and have some moron steal it .
I have tried the Wilson 1000, and 5000 and could not see a difference between the two. On both my vehicle, and others. They both work great, but I sold the 5000 because I like the cleaner look of the 1000.
I saw a 20% improvement in RX in both of those over the 4 ft Wilson Silver Load.
I expect that you will love the improvement, and yes its worth the money if you don't want to drill holes for the regular roof mount Wilson 1000.

Re: mobile antenna
The Wilson 5000 "is" Wilson's, High-End-Antenna! And cost as much, if not more, than a Predator 10K, or Mr.Coily, or even Monkey Made's!oknaz wrote:soon as i get the cash I'm going to get a wilson 5000 . i don't want to buy a high end antenna and have some moron steal it .
If you park in the wrong spot's, and dont remove it. It too will go "bey-bey!"
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
Well I got the 5000 Mag mount and slapped it on the truck tonight ....and it was the easiest antenna I have ever tuned....(besides the 10K had flat SWR's on all channels)The 5000 has 1.1 SWR on all reg 40 channels, that was just sticking the whip down in there the first time however with swr's like that I am not going to fool with it ....The receive picked up about 3 or 4 S units from the nearby surface mines so I am pretty pleased......LOL on a side note I was taking the silverloads off and the wife asked why you doing that ? She liked the way it looked with them on lol Dang I can never please her
Re: Mobile Antennas
I have a Wilson 5000, I think it's pretty good, I have talked at 11 miles with it, and in combination with my SWP general lee I can hear things for long distances.

I checked out the ship picture in your profile. Did you serve on that one?
Re: Mobile Antennas
Small Truck Big Radio,
I think it is working pretty well, I'll have my 2 by 4 here pretty soon to go with it, and yes I served on that ship, I worked on the big gun you see on the front of it.
