I got a A-99 free. I bought a Cobra 139XLR at a garage sale for $5.00 and it works. I am picking up a Palomar 300A, Raider Amp, Meters, and 2 Base Stations for $75.00 tomorrow. The Palomar has no power supply unfortunately. Still, I think it is a good deal for everything. Maybe?

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Sounds like a very good deal to me. Watch eBay for the power supply unit for the Palomar or a cheap non-working or condition unknown one. They pop up on there every now and then. Takes a lot of tome and patience but they can be found.010 wrote:I got a A-99 free. I bought a Cobra 139XLR at a garage sale for $5.00 and it works. You have to show the Sears receiver or can post it here: [Please login or register to view this link]
I've been thinking about getting a general coverage receiver again. I haven't owned one in many years now.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Well, I got everything home that I bought yesterday for $75.00 . I got a Palomar 300A ( 6 ) 6LF6/6MH6 Tubes ) fan runs but tubes don't light up, Raider Amp ( 4 ) 6JG6A Tubes) ( 500 W ) tubes light up and nothing else, An SBE-40CB Consol V without a mike, plugged it in and receive was excellent... a Simba SSB/2 without a mike, plugged it in and receive was excellent.
A Palomar 1000W Meter.....Worked...just didn't have enough power out of my Cobra 139XLR to make the needle move very much......Just my luck that everything needs a little work...But I found someone to look at all of it, and said maybe we could work a deal on trading for fixing....So I will just have to see what goes on...I will post what I find out....010

Not really radio gear but I did pick up one of those magnifying lights on an adjustable stand yesterday at a yard sale. Used it last night while soldering up a mic plug and it was like clipping the toenails on a brontosaurus

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
I don't know if this counts or not but, I had an old ElectroVoice Model 638 I got when I bought my FT901DM and I made a nice lamp out of it for my radio room. I kept the mic excactly as it was but ran the power cord in just like the mic wire was and use the PTT to turn the light on and off. Cool project and nice addition to my room. I must say, I am pretty proud of her.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Here's a few fairly recent goodies to post to the list of things that I picked up here-n-there. There's probably a dozen or so other things to post and I need to take some pic's of some prior radio gear--------but I've got to run my dogs and it's looking like thunderstorms any time now (!) so I better go unplug the 'ol station coax and grab a pair of collars & leashes. Boy, for the first time in MONTHS I did pretty much what I wanted to do today, shot skip, and just had a relaxing day. All I do everyday is work all day then come home and work on the house at night, trying to make it more livable & comfortable for having guests and the like. Oh well I better go----here's some radio-lover candy to check out . . .

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
I drove over to Moody to the guy's house. I saw his ad on craigslist. The 142 needs to have a receive alignment done to it, but for the price I paid I can't complain, the radio does have a lot of power and a lot of modulation and I had been wanting to find one for a while now.Sporty Mike wrote:Cool Big Dog!!! whered you have to go to get 'em?? I'm also running a want ad on craigslist for any kind of CB Radio and another local responded to it, I might pick up a few more radios from him, not sure. I had been hitting local thrift stores trying to find some deals, but craigslist actually seems to be a better bet. Btw Mike, have you ever used Dodge City CB for any work? I may take it to them.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Sorry to double post, but I want to update. Today I got a Sears 5 pin mic and an old Cobra Dynamike Plus at $2 for both. The 5 pin works with no rewiring needed on my RS Mini-Mobile and the Cobra needs to be wired to a connector but should work fine with my Cobra 29 and 25. Not radio related, but I also got a Belkin Wireless G USB adapter for $3. It should help me get a better connection to our network in my shack.

Today I was lucky enough to get a Robyn T-240D in nearly mint condition. $200. The only problem with the whole radio is after about ten mins the meter stops operating on receive signal. Receive is fine, AWESOME actually but the meter decides to stop working after about ten mins or so. Should be an easy fix. This is my first tube radio.

Picked up a Sears Roadtalker ssb mobile, a few mobile antennas, and a Realistic 23ch Handheld at a yardsale today. Also got an old Ham rig made by Canadian Marconi Corp, all I know so far is that it can cover 3-22 mhz and has six channels that you need crystals for. No idea how to work it but I will learn

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
I did pretty good yesterday at a flea market tailgate sale. A retiring trucker had a combo deal including a peaked & tuned Cobra 29 LTD Classic, four mics wired for the Cobra including an older Telex Road King 56 and misc noise cancelling ones, quite a bit of heavy gauge coax, and a new in packaging 4 ft fiberglass whip with mount. Paid 30 bucks for all.
A few weeks ago I went to the local yearly "hamfest" and picked up a Regency CR-123B 23 channel AM/SSB base with connected D104 lollipop mic for $15. Both work like new once I installed a new 9v snap connector in the D104. Also got a like new JC Penney 23 channel base for $5 that the seller said didn't work... but a quick cleaning of the channel selector quickly brought it back to life.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Well, as usual, I've picked up some trade material but for myself I bought another Yaesu FT-450. It came in a package- The FT450, MD100 desk mic, an Astron 35m, and a set of Kent cw paddles, all for $700. It all had the boxes and papers and was in mint shape. Now $700 is more than I usually spend on a pile of gear but those radios are more than that new and I got all the other stuff. I'll probably sell off the paddles, mic, and supply and when I'm done I'll have roughly $400 invested in the rig, cheap enough for a decent entry level hf rig that I can sell when I'm ready. I've had 3 of these radios over the past 3 years. Every time I get one for a good price I end up selling it off because the money is good but I'll probably keep this one. It is an early 2007 model so it has the color change led option and for cb you don't even have to take the lid off to mod it- it is all in the menu.
