Tram D201 TX Problem

#285650

Post by hifiman »

Hi All

I picked up a Tram D201 in very nice condition. Its the non VOX 23 channel with the VFO mod.
Heres the issue. About once out of three times when I dead key I get about a watt and it bounces back and forth. The rest of the time it keys perfect at about 5 watts.
Now even when it doesnt key right the swing and modulation works fine. It gets better as it warms up for a couple of hours.
It came with a amplified D-104 that may be the problem. When it drops down on power on key up or goes up to the 5 watts and drops back down if I wiggle the keyer on the goosneck it bounces back to life. I have tried cleaning the D-104 contacts and the relays in the radio. If someone can follow the explanation I just gave and has any ideas? Oh and I just ordered a no powered OEM D-104 for this radio to see if indeed it is a mic radio or if its a radio issue.
