SWR question

#28583

Post by Zeus »

I Drilled the hole, in my 91 ranger and mounted a 3 foot firestik deadcenter of the roof. I put a 6 inch round X 1/8 thick piece of aluminum on the roof for support, than the antenna. It has a big spring off of a 102 in. ss whip. I have new 12 foot coax. The radio is mounted on the floor via pedestal mount. So far I have not gounded anything, and my SWR is maxing out my RS SWR meter on all channels. Technically it IS grounded to the cab since it is connected directly to it, right? Anyway the question is, will grounding everything fix that bad of a SWR, or is there another problem?
Thanks,
ZEUS

You will def want to ground your whole vehicle no matter what your setup is.
Take a look at this for good grounding info.

I figured it out. I forgot to put the plastic washer between the antenna, and the roof. Put that little sucker in there and now everything is awsome!
