I got an A99 today and got it hooked up. The guy at the shop said to take some wire and put it across the roof but i can't remember where he said to tie them off to.
From what I've heard and read on here, a ground plane for the A99 doesn't help enough to notice. You could always try it but I'm not sure how you would do it.
He must have been talking about guy wires for the antenna mast. There's a ground plane kit you can purchase for the A-99. It has 4 radials pointing down at a 45 degree angle. Nothing gets tied down to the roof with it.
I have my A-99 on a chimney strap mount with a 10 foot mast. The tip is at 43 feet, base at 25 feet. I don't have it tied down at all. It has already withstood some pretty strong winds this spring. If you're going to use a tripod to mount it to your roof, I'd then most definitely consider using guy wires. You don't want to damage the roof of the house in a bad storm.
yep now my next buy is a new radio. i want to get a mobile and use it as a base so i an put it in my truck from time to time. it doesn't have to have ssb. i was really thinking about a general lee any one have any of those as bases?
