Unamplified D104 to a Madison
I have an unamplified D104 a friend would like wired for his Maddy, there is no cord on the mic, in the base of the mic there is a yellow, black, light green, and dark green wire. Any help on how to figure out how to wire this would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance for any help!

Astatic Mics have a schematic on the bottom inside cover. Is yours missing?SOL1776 wrote:I have an unamplified D104 a friend would like wired for his Maddy, there is no cord on the mic, in the base of the mic there is a yellow, black, light green, and dark green wire. The D-104 without a preamplier will be a high impeadance microphone I don't know how well it will work with a Madison.

I read somewhere else that I'll have to install some resistance to bring down the impedance but I'm still not real confident it's going to work as well as my buddy would like...Night Crawler wrote:The D-104 without a preamplier will be a high impeadance microphone I don't know how well it will work with a Madison.

Where are you going to install the resistance and how's that going to change the impedance of the mic element?SOL1776 wrote: I read somewhere else that I'll have to install some resistance to bring down the impedance but I'm still not real confident it's going to work as well as my buddy would like...
This is what has to be done to get it to work with a solid state rig.

Here's some D-104 information that might help you figure out the wiring.

Are there certain types of radios that an unamplified D-104 is appropriate for ? Tube ? Some transistor types ?

The owners manual will give the impedance of the microphone needed in the radio specs for the transmitter.
A D-104 uses a crystal or ceramic element which is high impedance and works well with tube equipment (high impedance) when used with the preamp it will match that high to a low impedance or anywhere in between that's the reason astatic used them so they could match the microphone input impedance of almost any radio contrary to the belief that it was designed for a cb to get that loud booming audio.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason your friend wants to stick with that mic? I have the same radio but I have the amplified D104 and once you get it set up correctly, it seems to work really well. At first I didn't care for it but now I love it.
