alright, i was having problems with my cobra 21 and everyone thought it was mic wiring, well, i rewired one of my existing mics, and i also found a friend and traded for his cobra power mic. and it's kinda weird. i get plenty of tx when i key up, but no one can hear me because i don't have battery in power mic (do they have to have a battery to transmit, I've just been assuming that) but.....i get 0 rx....none at all, and the other day i was getting a little but now i got nothing on the tx/rx meter for rx. and I'm thinking it's an antenna problem, or a radio problem. unless there's something that makes it not receive unless power mic has battery, and that seems farfetched. so, if you guys could help me out a bit, that would be appreciated.

what kind of battery is it, 9 volt, 7 volt, etc. radio shack should have one or can get one. most I have had used a regular 9 volt battery that you can get anywhere and I had one odd ball cobra that took one of the 7 volt batteries kinda hard to get and radio shack will be the easiest place to start huntin thats where I found mine.
it sounds like a 7 volt to me but I could be wrong. take it to one of your electronics stores and have them match it if you havent already. that is an odd battery and your local stores may have to order it for you I am not sure if any of the sponsors on here can or will get them but it is worth checking with them also.
Sounds like a 7v to me. My old Turner +3 mobile mic takes that. I went to Radio Shack and they wanted like $20 for 7.5v (which is all I could find anywhere...and NOT the same)! Went to Batteries Plus and bought the exact same thing for $6. Not sure how it'll affect the audio circuit in there...but I've yet to get mine to work properly. But then again, I haven't had time to mess with it.
Don't you have an old stock mic laying aroudn someplace? I'd be using a stock mic to confirm the radio works first. Then when the antenna system is confirmed good, then fuss with the power mic. But that's just me.

i don't have a stock mic, unfortunately i got the radio from a farmer i know, and he thought it worked, but i just got the radio, and i traded my midlands radio (one i had been using) for the cobra power mic, hoping that it would work...so...I'm gonna have to find a non-power mic, don't know where though
The mercury batterys are not made anymore and are not available from any source I have found. Laws changed on them and they were an environmental issue. I have a power mic that used one and have tried several batterys with no luck, just wont work right. It will however work without the battery. You just have to be close, speak clearly and loudly.
Get another mic, looks like Punkin Head has a great deal for you !
Thats southern hospitality for you !
