1.75 SWR Acceptable?

#31855

Post by -TIMSTER- »

I installed my Predator 10K with new Belden Mini 8 running a SWP Galaxy 99. The SWR is 1.5 to 1.75 on channels 1, 19 and 40 perceptively. Good enough? Is it that important to have 1.5 or less? Will it make any difference in send or receive running with an SWR of 1.1:1 versus what I have?

TIA

After cutting the whip, that's all the lower the SWR will go. Moved the whip up and down but no luck with lowering it.

I would try to get it to 1.2 or lower across the band, its important, and more important if you ever put an amp inline, 10K's tune easy

First off, the guys are right. Yes, it's better than a 2.0 SWR, but something doesn't seem right. What is it on Channel 1? And what is it on channel 40? That will tell us/you which way to go with the antenna (longer or shorter).

Where is it mounted? Could be some side reflection is taking place, could be alot of things...not excluding the ground not being quite good enough. Whenever I run into an SWR that doesn't seem to stablize one way or another, I look closer at the ground point(s). Sometimes the RF ground isn't as good as it should be...therefor giving some less than desirable SWR's.

Myself, I'm usually not happy until I achieve a 1.5:1 (or lower) SWR across the band. I don't own a 10k (yet), but from all the reports I've seen it should be plenty broad banded enough to achieve a better SWR than you are showing.

Just my $.02

I just lost a pill in my amp because my SWR climbed. I am still tracking the problem. You will lose TX and RX range with high SWR. I have found one time I had high SWR that my coax wasent any good. I will post what I find when I get mine fixed.

After investigating, I looked at my coax which is brand new Belden mini 8x! The end which connects to the antenna is discolored.... yellowish green. I noticed it when I removed my old antenna but didn't think anything of it. Whatcha think of this?
