Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
My guess would be it takes a HiZ mic as most of the tube units did. That's just a guess as I'm not familiar with the Hallicrafter units.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
welp, i know i know about the rat shack.. but i got a power/swr meter from there.. seems to be pretty close to the dosy my buddy has.. also got some coax from there to use on my dipole i made. took a piece of steel tech toy stuff. have used the crap out of that stuff for mounts, and all different stuff, but got the so connector out of a bad 29 and mounted that on the steel tech, then solderd the 108" of copper wire to the ground and 108" wire to the center connector and mounted in the tree below my a99.. hung the wires in the inverted v.. haven't made any contacts yet with the dipole but have made a couple with the a99. but that dipole seems to hear a lil bit better in skip conditions.

just got a RF Limited Xtreme 2018 Mic. Heard they was good so ordered one to see for myself. Everyone I talk to says im clearer than on my D104 hand mic and with the N.R. feature I can use it in the mobile and have just as good quality sound without all the background noise.

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Well, I went "picking" today. I helped some of my family members clean out my grandmother's garage. I scored a bunch of good stuff, like an old Coca-Cola cooler(yes, just like the one from Pawn Stars) an old Federal siren and beacon light from a 50's patrol car, a nice rolling toolbox, a whole bunch of tools, all kinds of old "mining/blasting cap" related stuff (antique blasting machine, about 100 old "explosive" stickers, etc.-my step-grandfather was a well-known Bomb Squad officer), and of course-radio gear. Got an 8ft. fiberglass whip, a few misc. steel whips, and a Pace 123A in perfect working condition-best part is, there are apparently more radios in her basement that we haven't started clearing out yet. Also got an RCA WV-98C "VoltOhmyst" and a B&K Transistor Analyst Model 970(both worked, or at least powered on). Everything was free.

Let's see. Hit a few yard sales today. Got 3 glow-in-the dark adhesive mic clips for my desk so that I can keep my mics a little more organized, $2. Also picked up a plastic chair mat for $3(these sell for $25 new) so I can finally ditch the folding chair I was using in the shack and step up to a "man's" chair! This will keep me from messing up the carpet in the shack.

Got a pretty good steal here today.
Cobra 139 23 Channel base with original mic, and an Astatic T-UG8 D-104 desk mic. I got everything for $35. The D-104 is in absolutely perfect condition and even came with the original box and paperwork! Pretty good after I've had such a long dry streak. Will post pics tomorrow.

Alright, now for a few pics. I still can't get over the condition of the D-104. Surprised I managed to get all of this for $35.

The D-104 came with a 1/4in. plug wired on, so I rewired it to a 4-pin Cobra plug. Sounds great on the air.
It's not as cool, but I also got 100ft of Cat5 ethernet cable for $10 from Amazon.com. I ran this underground to my shack, so I'm now connected to my home network with a dedicated wired connection. This allows me to get on the internet and quickly find any tuning info or pull up weather radar. Not bad.

My latest purchase is a DuKane model 7B40 mic head. It has the original element and it's in excellent shape and the audio is outstanding. I bought it for my latest restore project (pics of restore to follow).

Now you have me jealous! I love that style of mic head. Reminds me of something from a 50s airplane or car.crazydiamond wrote: Here it is on the restored stand with a new dark grey hammered paint job.

They're awsome and there are quite a few different heads out there that will fit D104's. Here are a couple more i have. The silver eagle has a 10-DA head and the other has a DN-200 head.BobCB wrote:That's pretty cool looking. I think I may have been bit by the "classic microphone" bug!

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Awesome. I'm seriously considering trying to start up a vintage mic collection. It seems like there were so many places that used to have desk mics back in the day I might have a chance at coming across a few without putting much money towards them; maybe at yard sales or flea markets.
I figured out what it was that those mic heads reminded me of. I have an old Federal Signal EG siren from the 50's. That's what your mic heads look like to me.
On a side note, I hit a local thrift store today and picked up a Radioshack 3amp power supply for $5. It's not a lot of power, but every little bit counts.

an almost new cobra 29 for $10 at a garage sale.. works fine
Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
Got a Roadforce 457 base radio, have to say, not real impressed as of yet. The audio is so so and I can't get it turned up enough to drive my tuber, it has about 6 watts and almost NO swing, just sits there. Could be an issue with it but it may just go on the shelf as part of the collection instead of being used!

Re: What have you recently acquired for new radio gear ?
As a truckdriver I run across some pertty good deals now and then. Then last one that I bought was my Galaxy 959,,, gave an driver 125.00 for it about 3 years ago. It was new still in the box. The lady won it along with a couple other radios playing those cheery machines at the truckstop.
