Browning Bananna Mike element

Post by crazy_cooter »

Hey I have a mint condition Browning Bananna mike that I was thinking of putting a new element in. I have been reading up on the Heil HC-5 element, and may consider trying one. But first I want to ask if anyone has ever done this conversion, and how did the mike sound compared to the original electro-voice element? I can't see spending $50.00 for something smaller than a dime if i don't know that there will be major improvement. Also, does anybody know who sells straight, non-coiled brown or tan microphone cable for this mike? Golden eagle cb, barkett, nor anybody else sells it anymore.

Be careful cooter, that' is usually known to be used on ham radios, not cb. You start with a mic element and before too long that ham stuf is like crack, you'll be using a ham radio and some ham coax, then a ham antenna. I'm just messing with you and I couldn't resist  but heil does make some nice mics. Check the different elements. Some are more audio friendly and some are made for cutting through the noise out there and don't necessarily sound fantastic. They also make dual element mics so you can just switch. I ran a heil dual element for years on a boom and foot switch and it worked well. I could talk, key with my foot, eat spaghetti, and drink all while shooting skip. If room allowed that would be pretty trick housed in that banana mic.

Have a good one.

I got a Rode condensor mic from my step bro and busted it apart and put the element in my Sadelta. Sounds clear on my 2000GTL.

HAHAHA! Good one Doctor! Yeah I really want to try it, but I'm not real sure if I will benefit from it, or kinda be on the same level as I am now with the current element in the mike. I've heard nothing but good things about the Heil element, I just never tried one. If it made my audio just a fuzz more bassy than what it is now, then I'd be happy. The bananna mike is crystal clear now, but somewhat on the tinny side. If I could improve that minor detail about its audio quality, that would be awesome!
