Hams are great when you find one that has some knowledge about radio. Unfortunately, there are none in my area that know much of anything! Probably don't have enough knowledge to know how to tune a tube amplifier! If you have a good ham friend that knows a lot about the technical side of things, that is a great friend to have.

Re: HAMS ARE HELPFULL
LOL, yeah I actually take that back, I do know two people who are ham operators and they are very knowledgable of radio and its technicality. One of them is an older gentleman retired from the U.S. navy, and was involved in some sort of communications ordeal. Communications officer maybe? And the other guy I know has built many different amplifiers, and even a tube tester! But other than those two, I really do not know of anyone else in my area that is smart enough to do anything else but turn on their radios, and change frequencies.

Well, I can turn it on but dont talk all that ham mumbojumbo, and have no plans on getting a lisense anytime. But they do serve as a fall back communication system for the masses when needed. If Pooopy was to hit the fan in the US, CB and HAM radios will be our vital tool.

Yep, as long as there isnt a repeater tower in the mix, that would be the only form of communication available. Everybody on the CB radio talk forum will survive!
