Cobra 148 GTL mic wiring issue.
Hey there guys - I have a 148 gtl with the 4 pin plug on the front.
Inside wiring colors are as follows:
1 - org
2 - red
3 - brown
4 - black
I have looked up the wiring for a 4 pin mic but I cant get any combination to work.
I have a generic no name mic with the wire colors:
Red, white, yellow with shield around it, and black.
I tried black and shield between 1 & 4.
Red and white between 2 & 3.
I even tried yellow in place of white as it has the shield around it for audio.
I get noise out of the rig when I key it, like feed back but never any audio swing.
I also tried a known good mic a cobra and no audio. The guy who had the rig before I
had it working fine.
Suggestions on how to wire the first mic would be helpful.
Thanks

Normally the 4 pin mic wires at 1:shield 2:audio 3:transmit 4:receive. Connect your shield and audio then it should be a simple matter of seeing which is which for the remaining two.

Audio is usually the white wire. This mic as I mentioned has a yellow wire with a shield. Should I treat that as audio or is white audio ??Irondog wrote:Normally the 4 pin mic wires at 1:shield 2:audio 3:transmit 4:receive.

Rx - Would that be ground or black wire ??

Okay that looks good. I checked a few places before but this may clear some things up.
I have tried several combinations.
They guy could have been a piece of crap and said there are no problems and there could be an audio issue.
I will try a few more times before sending it off to a friend to go through it.
Thanks for the help guys..

Hi N1QXV
You said you used a Cobra mic from another radio and it still did not work? I would say your radio has something other than a mis-wired Mic problem. You have a radio problem.

I got the cobra mic to work a few days ago.
I must have been at it to long the first time when it wouldn't. Its good now.
Thanks for the suggestions.
