Re: Passed Tech exam!
Great job on getting your ticket. Before you know it you'll want to upgrade to a general class!
Re: Passed Tech exam!
You didn't list your Call so people can't go look you up!
Congrats on your Tech ticket Go check out echolink for a taste of what HF is like. You can use it right from your computer and you can even work cross band to a 10 meter repeater or if another op has his HF rig hooked up to it you can work the HF band legally. Your TXing on the computer or on 2 or 70cm.
Don't forget you have privileges on 10 meters too!
See you on the bands.

Hi Bobcb,
Congratulations,
You are right; it isn't just about CB. It all about two way radios and the men that made it what it is today. That is why I enjoy this forum. There are plenty of knowledgeable operators here that can answer most questions about any radio.

I've got the android app as well and it works flawlessly. They have some good programmers out there coding this stuff these days.

I have Echolink on my android phone. I have only used it a time or 2 to talk to my cousin in GA on his local repeater.

Re: Passed Tech exam!
I just took the Technician Class test on eHamdotnet and got 22 out of 35 questions right, a score of 62.9%, and a 74% is needed to pass. I reviewed the test and found the questions I got wrong were simply questions I had no idea about, questions that with a little studying I would have breezed right by. I'm going to hit the online study material and retake this thing myself. I'd like to have the license.
Re: Passed Tech exam!
Do it! And while you're at it, study that general material, you won't regret that at all.

I agree with Doc. Take them both. Just a little more studying and you have access to all the HF bands as well. There's just areas toward the bottom of the bands reserved for extras. Go for it.'Doc wrote:Do it! And while you're at it, study that general material, you won't regret that at all.

When you say "take them both," do you mean take the Technician and then the General test?Slyguy wrote:I agree with Doc. Take them both. Am I right that you have to have your Tech before you can have your General, and have your General before you can get your Extra?
Can you take the test online and pay the fee for the license and have it sent to you?

You can take all the practice tests online that you care to, but you have to go to a testing site to actually take the test. Check your local Amateur Radio Club or [Please login or register to view this link]
Study for all of them if you want, if you pass the Tech..you will be allowed to take the General if you want...if you pass the General...you can take the Extra...all for one price.
If you fail any test, that's it...you're done for the day unless you want to pay again for a retest.
Good luck on whatever you decide.

Re: Passed Tech exam!
I am another noobie. Passed tech Dec. 16 2012. I had a NOVICE ticket in 1960 and had to drop out. Now that I have more time (retired), I plan to go further with ham. I miss being able to build my own equipment and will most likely start back. I would much rather to build than buy , when you buy, you miss the thrill of hearing someone answer the call that you made on a homebrew transmitter. It is easy to buy (if you have the money) but more rewarding when you build your own. 73's and hope to talk to you on ham.
