Dual Microphones

I have a General Lee that I keep under my back seat. Is there any way that I can have two microphones hooked to the CB at the same time?

Basically, I would like to have a mic in the front of my truck and one in the rear of my truck.

Just get you a Uniden 880 or 980...Uniden is coming out with a "wireless" Mic that will work with either of these two radios!

Either that, or get a CB Shop to build you a pig-tail that would plug into your radio, and have two connectors on the other end so you could have two Mic's hooked to one radio.....shouldn't be that hard to rig up.

I would put a big "Supposed to be" in there. The manual promised it in 2012 and there is absolutely no information online. No updates, no pictures of what it will look like, nothing that makes me think they are even still working on it. I like the 980, but I wouldn't buy one in hopes that the wireless mic will be coming out soon.

The Uniden Wireless Microphone is in the works. They are waiting for the FCC to finish the testing on the prototype. The frequencies it needs to run are allocated to some medical equipment that hasn't been used in 50yrs, but don't hold your breath, it might not be out this year yet.

Secondly, I did find a splitter to attach two microphones to a single CB. What will I need to do to keep the CB from squealing? What would prevent me from having two microphones hooked to a single CB if I don't use both microphones at the same time?

So far those radios can't be modded for channels.

I'm wonder why the splitter would make the mics squeal. If it only cost a few bucks I'd try it and see what happens.

I found the splitter for $11. I will try and give a report once I get everything assembled.

The problems your going to run into is some radios need to close a circuit between ground and a receive line at the mic to receive. Well if one mic closes this circuit (not keyed) and the other mic closes a circuit to transmit (keyed) now your radio is being told to transmit and receive at the same time. Your also going to run into impedance problems on some radios as well. If the audio line is not switched, then you'll have two mic elements wired parallel.

I do not know how to get a schematic on a General Lee radio to check for these possibilities. I think the General Lee is wired like a Connex so it probably will not work.

If the radio has audio when the mic is not plugged in (not sure about the General Lee) then all you need to do is build the mic box and leave pin # 4 with no connection and it will work without a switch. The reason for doing this the a mic box is than the mics can be used on other radios or you can use any type of mic for your radio.

That is a good point MD. According to the mic schematic for the General Lee, it's showing an rx line closed to ground when the mic is not keyed.

i made a mic box for my radio and now have 5 desk mics all plugged into 1 radio.
i didnt use any switches, capacitors, resistors or any special wiring,
it was very simple to build and does not squeal or cause the other mics not to work.
in fact, i can even key up all 5 mics at the same time ( not recommended ) and they will all work.
pick up a small project box and a few MALE connectors .

if you only want to use 2 mics, just get a smaller project box and 2 MALE connectors.

Looks like I stand corrected. If you don't watch the video, the biggest takeaway is it works as a complete remote setup. He is in his kitchen while his radio is in his shack and he is RXing and TXing remotely. Along with waiting to get the frequency allocation they had to get a waiver from the FCC to allow what is essentially remote operation. I wouldn't mind having this in the house now that I see it in action.

Saw the Uniden Bearcat Cordless Microphone for sale a couple days ago, has a nice hefty price tag too. Think I will stick to corded mics for awhile.

I built a mic switch for my Hy-Range 5, 35 year's ago.
I made it like BEN!!!'s diagram and made it so i could use the original hand mic or a head set i bought from Sear's back in the day. Also had to include a speaker switch to hear out of the ear piece on the head set.

My Galaxy 959 has 2 mic jacks, one in the side and one in the back, the previous owner added the rear one. It is soldered the the existing wires inside of the radio. They both work. Haven't hooked up two mics to it tho. I guess the radio couldn't fit in his truck with the side jack.
