Turner M+3
Good afternoon folks, had a question on a microphone I found in my father-in-laws closet. It is a Turner M+3 hand mic, used, but still in its original packing and box. Apparently this model is wired for relay switching. I am trying to wire it for a standard Cobra 4-pin, which is not a problem, but was wondering about changing it to electronic switching. My Turner SSK has a built in switch for this function, while the M+3 does not. I had read somewhere that you can solder the black and shield wires together when wiring the mic plug and this would take care of it. Any suggestions?
BTW I have reviewed most of the mike wiring pages that I could find on Google, but none realy specifically address my questions.
Thanks in advance!!

If you do that with the M+3 you won't be able to switch the receive off during transmit.smokechaser wrote: I had read somewhere that you can solder the black and shield wires together when wiring the mic plug and this would take care of it.
The M+3 has a DPDT switch for the PTT and three wires with a shield so it's already capable of electronic switching.

Re: Turner M+3
Thanks for the reply. So it sounds like if I wire up the plug, which is the easy part, that it should work in its stock configuration? Is that correct? Just for information sake, why did Turner offer the M+3 and the JM+3 models?
I am trying to learn all I can about the older equipment, I love the older stuff, even if some of it is 20+ years older than I am!
Thanks again....

Re: Turner M+3
I have both the turner JM plus 3 and the plus 3 hand helds, One of them is a black mic the other is the 2 tone green and beige mic,
If i can remember, one of them has 6 wires which makes it easier to wire up to either relay or electronic .
if you reply to this post, i;ll see if i can find out more info for you, i;ll open up both mics and take pics if i have to .
they are hard to find mics but, very loud on AM .
took me almost 30 years to find my first one, then i found my second one shortly after that.
sometimes, you may also have to ad a jumper wire on your plug from 1 pin to another in order to get the relay to work.
Ive experimented with hundreds of mics an hundreds of radios.
its all about just trying different things and learning as you go along.
