Jesse's Custom D 104's
Just finished up my Custom D 104 Coca Cola theme Mic! New Mic element, neck connectors and a 4 pin plug...Works and sounds great! Pictures don't really do it justice, all I have is my cell phone camera.

On the white parts, I sprayed the "Pearl Mist" clear coat over which gives it a Metallic Pearl-like look... Doesn't show up tho in the pictures.

Re: Jesse's Custom D 104's
awesome job on the mics, now, thats wat i like to see,
anyone can own a typical stock D104, but, those are great, id love them for my collection,
i had a D104 that i had painted the base red , looked so much better then that ugly grey they use

i noticed u have a different element inside the head, is that a dynamic element ? and how does it sound ?
where did u get it, did u have to do anything to the preamp ?

Those are fine pieces of art. I love em. That John Deere would go great with my 88...

I saw a JD theme D-104 on ebay and almost bought it myself. Don't think it was the one you have but, very nice job on the Coca-Cola mic, very nice.

Very nice paint jobs. I have an old D104 that could use a face lift. Don't think it'll come out as good as yours. But thanks for putting the idea in my head.

Just take your time with it, and if you make a mistake painting, just sand it down and do it again!KALR 7570 wrote:Very nice paint jobs. I have an old D104 that could use a face lift. Don't think it'll come out as good as yours. But thanks for putting the idea in my head.
Main thing you want to do first, is to sand it down good with 60 grit sand paper...then use a finer sandpaper like a 300 grit, and then something like 600 grit...Once that's all done wipe everything down good with mineral spirits to get any oil or polish off...Once that's done, it's time for some self-etching primer...I got mine at Pep Boys automotive. (you won't find it at your local Home Depot's or Wally World)

Re: Jesse's Custom D 104's
The guy who sells them is on eBay, and he has them listed with the D 104's...If you search on ebay for "Astatic D 104 Microphones" you will normally see his ad's, but I didn't see any listed today...You may check back later in the week, usually there's several ad's up, guess maybe he just hasn't re-posted the ad's this week.3ZERO8 wrote:Where can I get one of the d104 mods???

Look for: "W2ENY HiFi" replacement element
They sound really great. and there's a sample audio clip on the sales ad that you can click on to hear a "Before and after" comparison sound bite.
