Question about a mag mount antenna?

#33409

Post by Snowman1975 »

I was curious, whenever I enter low clearance places, my antenna either falls down (from hitting ceilings) or I take it down so it doesn't hit anything. Whever I put it back up, I usually replace it to the same spot it was in before it fell (I can tell from the cratched area on the roof). My question is, should I re-check the SWR and adjust as necessary every time it falls or will it be ok because I always put it back in the same spot?

Just for those who don't know (although it's in my signature), I have a mag mount Road Pro 1000 (generic Cobra 1000) antenna on my minivan.

I don't think you need to recheck the swr every time you replace the antenna. I take mine off and put it back on all the time (in the same place) and never noticed a change in swr reading. As for it falling off all the time, I'd upgrade to a better mount. My Wilson 5000 smacks the crap out of tree limbs all the time and never budges an inch.

Cool, thanks. I am currently in the market for a new mount. I am going to try to get a tri-mag mount or something similiar.

Im with Bob 100% unless your running a high watt setup, your fine! If you notice one day you cant hear anyone, then its maybe time to recheck!
