Studying for the test!!

Not trying to ruffle any feathers here or start another ham vs. cb discussion. I would just like to know the best website or book to use to be able to pass the test asap. Thanks.

Many of us here have our ticket (some for many years).

Most any of them are good. The online free exams (QRZ.com, Eham.com, etc.) will get the job done. But nothing will prepare you more than reading the book. Whatever method you choose, here's to wishing you the best.

I have gotten the ARRL study guides from my local library, and the ARRL Handbook, you should check with them. The best part about getting them from the library is they have the CD's that you can download to your computer for future reference.

If you have a smart phone there are some really good apps out there. They cost around $4 but worth every penny. Lets you take practice tests and shows you what parts your having problems with. I highly recommend them. [ external image ]

Yep Sly, got them on my phone so I can study while waiting to pick my wife up from work. The free ones are just parcel tests but still helps.

Same here, and keep in mind once you pass the Tech, you can take the General for free that same day. Thats what i didn't know. Had to wait a month for testing to upgrade. I prolly missed it by 2 questions. So study both Tech & General. Its fairly easy to pass General if you know the Tech info.

Passing a ham radio test is fairly easy if all you do is become familiar with the questions and answers. If you really want to understand what those questions refer to and know what the answer is then it takes a lot more time. How much time? Well, how fast so you learn anything? For me it take a while, somethings quite a while! Most people can memorize the question/answer thingys and pass a test in a fairly short time period, but it's an individual thing. Unless you are really curious, going back and -learning' what all that stuff means isn't a very high priority, you know? It's also understandable, 'Ain't nobody got time for that!', sort of.
Most of the ham tests are about rules and safety. It's a very good think to know the rules because if you screw up bad enough, all that effort is a waste cuz you can have that privilege taken away from you. As for the safety thingy, one of those privileges is that you can build your won equipment and the juice inside those boxes can bite you. It's your neck, treat it like you thing it should be treated, you know?
The ham tests are really not -that- hard at all looking back on them. Of course, looking forward to them and they are not that easy! So what else is new? It's the same way with anything you aren't familiar with, or have to take a test for.

I like the first one listed the best. It gives you the reading material and references for each question to help explain the answer. It costs like $25 for a 2 year subscription. Between that website and Gordon Wests study guides I was able to get my General Class. Good luck on the test!
