yaesu md 100 8 x microphone

Post by smoke blower »

I bought a yaesu md 100 microphone and i wired it to work on my ranger 2980 wx. It has switchs on the bottom to change the tone of your voice and adjust the low and high cuts in your voice. Dose anyone know how i could wire it so the switchs on the bottom will function.

Look for the switch on the bottom of the mic that says Main or Main Filter make sure it's in the ON position not THRU then the high and lowpass filter switches should work.

It will work even tho it doesn't have any voltage going to it.

I tried moving the switchs but i don't see any difference. I was told i had to have 5 volts going to the mike to make it work.

Your question was how to get the low and highpass switches to work I assumed you had a voltage source going to the mic if not your going to need that for the mic to work at all.

Well as of now i am able to talk on it have been using it now for about a month but i dont have any voltage going to it at all . I wired it to work on the ranger and it does talk but the switchs on the bottom don't work at all moving them doesn't make a difference. I have a manual on it and it shows that using it on the yaesu radio it has 5 volts going to it from the radio but on the ranger it does not.

That mic probably uses an active filter for the low and highpass that needs a voltage for it to work or somebody disconnected the filters

On the back of the mic is the 8 pin jack, you can tap your 5v source to pin #2 (positive) and pin #5 (negative) or on the cat5 jack pin #2(negative) and pin #6 (positive). Now all you need to do is find a 5v source.

I just wanted to make sure i am correct the cat5 jack that is the 8 pin jack on the base. And it is negative on pin 2 and positive on pin 6. I have a little transformer here 5 v it was for a little screw driver i was going to use that. By adding voltage to it should i see a difference in the sound.

I hooked it up and it cut the modulation down so low you could barely hear it.

The mic has 2 jacks on the back, one is a cat5 and the other a regular 8 pin mic jack. They both have pins for power as I said before. The cat5 should have been the mic cord wired for the Yaesu radios and the other to custom wire it to anything else.

You can "Google" the mic for more information.

I tried to post it but i couldn't get it to go through.

Friday, 15 March 2013, 11:56 AM

The square plug goes from the base of the mike and that screws in the mike itself. There is a single wire that comes out of the mike and that plugs in my ranger. It only has a ground audio and transmit there is no wire for recieve so it will only work on a radio that will recieve without a mike. Anyway i tried putting 5 v to the 8 pin on the base of the mike thats not being used but it didn't work.

Ok, you need 3 more posts and then you can do pics. The back of the mic doesn't look like the pic I posted?
