How would I make 5 pin Uniden Grant work with 4 pin mics? Would it be easy to do in the radio or is there a way to make an adapter?

They sell a 5-4 pin adapter, most of the sponsors carry...--> [Please login or register to view this link] ,or just rewire a 5 pin connector on the microphone.

What mic are you trying to wire and we can tell if it will or not. Some mics have a terrible squeal when using the shield jumped to another pin to act as a switching ground.

None in particular, just tired of rewiring if I want to switch things up.

If the radio doesn't need a mic plugged in to receive you have half the battle won.

You can install a 4 pin Jack and tie the shield and common together but, as someone already said, I've heard of it causing a squeel in some cases. If it does squeal you might solve the problem by installing a cap between the shield wire and the common pin....just thinking out loud. I'd personally just use the adapter to keep that old rig as clean as possible.

BTW they do need a mic connected for the RX to work.

Yeah considering there is a little circut board on backside of plug I thought adapter would be the best.
