Luis, XE1L, has passed In San Diego, CA yesterday after returning from Clipperton Island.

Thank you for another contact Luis from your recent Clipperton Island dxexpedition. You will certainly be missed and condolences to your family.

I first met, Luis, at the Dayton Hamfest in Ohio.

He and the Peter 1 Island group reported on their Dxexpedition to Peter 1 Island (3Y0PI) from February 1, 1994 to February 15, 1994 (airtime) at the Dayton Hamfest... They had a lot of travelling by Cars, Planes and Icebreaker Ships in January

Peter 1 i island has such bad weather in the South Atlantic that they went in December and January.

They were there for a few days and then 5 foot of snow fell. They had to dig out the generators and open up an area around the tents for safety when the snow subsided.

High temperature while they were on Peter 1 Island was around 34 degrees.

Luis, was always the gentleman.

He always seemed to go on the dangerous (YES) expeditions where it is diffiuct to get on an island or there are political issues.

I will not forget all you did for the Radio Community.

Here is a recap of amateur radio DXpeditions where Luis Chartarifsky, XE1L, was an operator.

TX5K (Clipperton Island), Peter I Island (3Y0PI), Spratly Island (9M0M), Nepal (9N7MD), Western Sahara (S07L), Mali (TZ6RM), Revillagigedo Island (XF4L), Easter Island (XR0Y), Juan Fernandez Island (XR0Z) and Myanmar (XZ0A) which is now Burma. He also operated in amateur radio contests from various parts of Mexico, the US (including the Dry Tortugas) and Venezuela. Chartarifsky, who loved to travel, also operated from Ascension Island, Barbados, Jamaica, the Russian Polar Station, Aruba and Israel, just to name a few.

Some of the locations where very difficult to get on to or into, and in others you easily faced political problems and not to mention how expensive the accumulated expenses got to be.

We will not forget Luis.
