Just a few questions on the 101e, first is, are inrad and fox tango the only place you can find a 6kc am filter? Are there any other ways to open up the am RX on the 101. I know the filter mod does nothing for Tx it only for Rx, SSB is awesome on this radio but AM sound like Pooopy and is very hard to dial in

Very hard to dial in a 6khz signal with say a 3khz filter. I am no expert on those, but I think your gonna need to make sure you have the correct crystals too. I have seen several filters on sale on the mega auction site. I have one too, but it is too much work for me to get on the AM air. So, I didn't delve far into it. Good luck.

BTW< make sure to unplug it before you go poking around in it. They can sure pack a punch if you touch the wrong thing.

The 2 sites you listed are the best for info. Lots of those rigs have been parted out over the years, they always show up on eBay and at Ham Fests.
It was designed primarily for SSB, AM operation will tax those old tubes, which are almost impossible to find also.

True but I have read that if you keep the IC with in specs and don't run over a 30w DK, AM will not hurt it.

The filter is really the only way to do it but you can try the cap or resistor trick.
If you want a real wide receive jump the ssb filter with a 100pf capacitor which will give you a very wide bandwidth also instead of using a 100pf cap try a 10k resistor which will make it a little less wide.

Here's some mods for the receive and transmit you can try if you want.

It's going to be very wide about 10kc if you add a 10k resistor in series with the cap it will be a bit less.

What I would suggest is to do the mod for the AM filter where it's installed in the CW filters position on the board.

But instead of using the 6kc AM filter use the cap or cap resistor in it's place that way when you switch to SSB the 2.4kc filter will be used and it won't affect the operation in that mode.

That's a very good idea, I will have no need for CW anyway, so I would just follow the am filter mod with the switch and use a cap and resistor instead of the 6 kc filter?

That's all you have to do.
If it doesn't pass a signal with the resistor in series with the capacitor or the signal is low just use a capacitor without the resistor.

By the way did you ever get validated for Echolink ?
I'm working on a remote base for 2 meters that I'm going to connect it to I changed from single op to SYSOP mode and had to get validated again should have it running in a week or two.

Yup I just scanned a copy of my license and e-mailed it to them, I just have not used it yet, I would be using it on my tablet and every time I log on my daughter what's to try and talk so I have yet to use it to transmit, she is four and I don't want every one hearing her yelling in the background. I guess letting her talk on my CBs is coming back to bite me in the rear end

Try it first with the cap only without the resistor use a .001uf with a voltage rating of 50 volts or better you probably have one already if not RS has it #272-126 that's what I used on my old Yaesu.
