Trees?

I got a question.Do trees affect how a base antenna works? Will they block your signal? In the next few weeks i gonna be installing a set of Maco 3 element beams in my yard and it is mostly surrounded buy trees. The tower well be around 45 foot tall. This will leave about half of my antenna higher than the top of the trees. I cant really go any higher because i will have to add guide wires and thats not an option at this point. So my question is,will i be OK or am i wasting my time.

On a side note.My ground plane is at the same hight right now and works good.

IF YOU WERE HORIZONTAL I COULD SEE A PROBLEM BUT VERTICAL I CANT SEE NO PROBLEM. IT WOULD BE BETTER TO BE OVER THE TREES BUT IF YOU CANT YOU CANT KNOW WHAT I MEAN BUT ANYWAY GOOD LUCK WITH IT. I GOT 50 FEET OF TOWER FOR FREE THE OTHER DAY I AM PUTTING UP WHEN I MOVE INTO MY HOUSE IN ABOUT THREE WEEKS AND MAYBE WE CAN TALK LOCAL. RIGHT KNOW I AINT UP BUT ABOUT 30 FEET AND WHEN I HAD MY CHAMP AMPLIFIER I COULD TALK ANYWHERE BUT I TRADED IT FOR AN 8X2879 MOBILE. BUT ANYWAYS HAVE A GOOD ONE AND HOPE TO BE TALKING SOON.

I can get more tower easy its just i don't want to go to high with out any guide wires.I figure I'm pushing it at that hight since it's not a self standing tower.I don't think I'll have any problem but i was just wondering what kind of effect trees have on a 11 meter signal.

Hotrod,we both get them up we will give it a shot.Reckon how far it is from were you are at to Tupelo?

As long as you aren't using them on the flat side, and stay vertical

Surrounded by trees is different than being right up against them. Believe it or not, some woods will absorb RF signals. From what I've read softer (i.e. pine, fir, etc.) tend to have the absorbsion properties. Indeed that is exactly what I experienced with my Antron in a 90' Fir tree...before getting the whole thing above it (which made a huge difference). As everyone has probably seen or experienced, height is might.

I'll agree with the folks here so far that on the vertical or even 45* you'll probably have decent results as has been proven by your ground plain.
