Someone is getting out pretty good on CH. 11
I'm a truck driver and CH 11 is our "company channel" which we use for door assignments, etc. when arriving at a terminal. There's a guy I hear from time to time, usually around 11pm-12am, that Is from somewhere in the southern US. I've picked him up on my truck unit (Cobra 29 with a 4.5 foot fiberglass K40) in Harrisburg PA, Cumberland MD, and Cleveland & Columbus OH. Anyone else?

Back in the 70's channel 11 was my home channel. When I am running up I-70 and I-68, I hear a lot of the West Virginia stations on 11 now, some are big boys.

Our Cumberland terminal uses 11 but the conversations are sporadic and usually limited to a few sentences and it's active only between midnight and 5-6 am. I can hear this fella talking to other operators but all I can make out on the other end is a mic being keyed up, at best. He used to announce his handle and location but I haven't heard him mention it lately. I'm thinking he was from Louisiana or Mississippi.
There's a group of locals in Cumberland with some big base stations that used to tie up ch 19 and would go off on truckers even when asked politely if they could go to another channel. They seem to have moved on.

Re: Someone is getting out pretty good on CH. 11
Channel 11 has been a popular "local" channel in many parts of the US. Back in the hey day of CB it was usually like 3, 6, 11, 12, 20 and 23. In some parts including around this area 11 is still a popular channel. In the days of 23 channel radios many tuned there antennas around channel 11 and 12 and I think that's the main reason they were so popular. That and I also think it was one of the common crystal frequencies for the old plug-in crystal radio's. Some of the other older fella's here might know that for fact. But I think those were 3, 7, 11,15, 19 and 23 which were all channels adjacent to the RC channels. Listen to him when you can and even give him some shout outs and see if you can find out where he's at.

Picked him up around midnight last night when I was heading east on the PA Turnpike near Somerset and again around 0230 when I was heading back west on I-68 between Hagerstown and Hancock, MD. Most of the talk was hard to understand but he kept repeating "five five five" and there was another guy saying he was "315".

Hi fellas, hey 11AM has a pretty big following here in Australia. It's definately culturally cemented in the CB world here and is often referred to as the AM call channel.
When the skip's rolling we mostly talk to Hawaii, but some of the big stations make stateside contacts and don't worry, we here you guys all the way up to 27 or so. Problem is it's so full on it's hard to get a word in edgeways.
Myself and a few mates are trying to keep it alive in Melbourne and often chat at night on 11, even though the city of Melbourne has the biggest scene in Australia to my knowledge.
Take it easy from 535.
