10 meter dipole off porch contacts South America
strung up a 10 meter wire dipole from my porch to a near by tree, roughly only 10 - 15 feet off the ground. 10 meters was open today and while using this dipole with my ft897d i made a contact to SAO PAULO,BRAZIL he reported that my signal was 5 by 5 , i had him at 5 by 9.
here is the dipole installation i worked him with:

mounted to a tree with an insulated eye screw:

Tied off to my porch:

Hung horizontally:

I was really surprised i made this contact, i was using under 100 watts.

ok, so today the band was open again "10 meters" I heard a station from the canary islands, he could not hear me on the dipole so i swapped to my icom which is using a verticle up much higher and made the contact with that, I went back to the dipole and did manage a contact to Germany, although he had a very rough copy on me, so this weekend, prolly tomorrow, i will be raising my horizontal dipole to 30 feet, we will see how this performs. Going to use the same tree fastened higher but on the other end im using 3 fiberglass masts off the porch.

ok well today i went out to the tree and raised up the mount on this 10 meter dipole, it is now resting at about 25 feet off the ground "couldnt manage my hoped 30 feet
" Now im just waiting on the band to open so I can give it a try.
