I only have a cb in the big truck I drive for work. It's a peaked & tuned Cobra 29 Classic with a 636 mic and K40 4.5 ft fibreglass antenna. I have a Wilson 2000 and K40 Trucker collecting dust in my garage because the fibreglass K40 seems to perform better. I also have a 29 LX that I bought because....it was for sale....and a Bearcat 880 that I bought because Love's Truckstop had them on sale for $79.999999. I'd like to set up one of the new radios in my work car but there is barely enough room in an '02 Ford Focus for a walkie-T. Looks like I need to go radio shopping for a compact.
backwoods wrote:I have a Gen Lee running a 1X2 but am going to put a 2030 modded 29 in it's place for awhile. I like the Lee allot and it's loud but would like to get the Lee on a big antenna to scan more channels for a little while. It may go back in the truck in a little bit but I have hi hopes for this BIG 29!! So yea I want to try a Magnum and maybe Ranger in the future, just looking around to see what everyone is running.
I run a 148 and wilson 1000 modified and it works great lmr 240 coax on wilson and whip is 2 inches longer swrs are perfect
Remember, don't set up your station just to key on other people, set up your station to keep other people from keying on you.
Mr 243 Beaumont Tx, clear and gone.
small car : DX98VHP w/astatic 575 to Sirio Preformer 5000.
small truck : DX99V to "nothing owned" and Wilson 5K.
And now [later on 2014:P] will work on third car - will install SS158EDX to 1x4 to 102". or hr2510... we will see...
Okay, okay, I'll admit it. I got a Cobra 19 DXIV. The Firestick II cost about as much as the radio. I needed something in the Jeep for when I go 4 wheelin'. Just installed it this morning. And now that it's there, I'm itching to get back into CB's. Been away too many years.
Oh well, I look at it this way. I got no place to go but up!
BTW the install went well. No hums, buzzes, gurgles or whistles. I listened to the wisdom on this forum and made sure everything was secure, located in the right place and well grounded. The first time I keyed the mic it was with a SWR meter in line. Thanks CBRT.
I run a General Lee into a 1x2879 Fat Boy Trucker Series with a Variable Knob. I get out pretty good, and I get a lot of compliments about how good my radio sounds.

I forgot to mention my Wilson 1000 Antenna. The Radio is set to dead key 2w on the low setting. I can use the knob on my amp to turn that down to a 1w dead key and swing to 50w, if I am talking to someone really close. Then if someone starts keying up on me, I just roll the knob and get a 5w dead key that swings way past 100w. If I told you how high that 1x2879 swings when pushed by a dual final radio, you'd say my meter is broken, but I know that it's not.
2012 VW Passat TDI, Cobra 29 LX keying 1 swinging 10, Palomar (vintage) 4x1446 putting out about 225 watts, Astatic 636L, Wilson 5000 mag mount on the trunk. The antenna location isn't the greatest, but I'd rather screw up the paint on the trunk than on the roof.
