My crazy base station lol
I was really bored and on a tight budget but I have been wanting a base station (all in one) not just a mobile on a power supply even though that is all they are. I mainly done this for fun (my cure for boredom) I found an old beat up cobra 29 and and some pieces of cut steel from the hardware store and went to work.

Thanks, I had to think on the channel display for a while without having to go and buy what was needed, so I just used two pieces of Cat 5 Ethernet cable in place of the ribbon wire. lol I magyvered as much as I could lolUnit243 wrote:LQQKS cool !!

Hay you could be on to something!
Buy some old junk radios off ebay, then a project box, and build your own custom Base radios and re-sell them on ebay!
cool idea.....

I agree with JJD, find some dead base stations and go to town installing Galaxy boards in them, I've been thinking of doing the same thing, I know where to get a "DOA" Dak X and Galaxy 959.

This has been done very successfully, we've discussed it here before on the Forum.
A local guy here has put Cobra 29s in several of the older radio cases, using an old DAK radio is his favorite. The last time I spoke with him he was going to add a 2 pill amp to one also. A great project!

I know how much I have invested in this project but I have no idea what it would sell for? Would the profit be worth the time invested?

Re: My crazy base station lol
This is something I've wanted to do for a long time. There is a youtube video of a guy who did this with a 959, included an amp, and a Para Dynamics type three panel meter. Super cool and beautiful job! Its been a long time since I saw the video but if I can find it, I'll post the link.

Probably not something you could make a living doing...Might be worth the time tho to build several and then take them to a HAM Fest of CB Break and try to sell...Guys at those places like buying something that's a little different.electrotech wrote:I know how much I have invested in this project but I have no idea what it would sell for? In for updates!
What all did you fit in the case? I see an amp. What are the PS specs?

I'm in the middle of a rack mount HiFi base station with internal 2 pill AB driver. Coming along pretty good. It's either going to be totally awesome or a big pile of (bleep). When I near the end of the build I'll post some pics. Stay tuned.

Nice job. I've seen a couple of folks feel the same way and do something similar.
