President Grant 2 in the UK

The UK is getting legal ssb in july so I've got my President Grant 2 at the ready

I hope to talk to you soon delboy. I get a lot of dx from the UK. I've talked to 275 in the UK several times on the lower side of 38. I just got my Grant 2 about a month ago and I love it. only one issue I have with it and it drives me nuts. The receive noise on sideband sounds more like electrical spikes instead of traditional white noise. It's worse when there is no dx. When dx is coming in strong it's not that noticeable but it is there. My 980 doesn't have this problem just my Grant. Just wondering If its just how the Grant sounds. How is yours on sideband receive?

The ssb receive is very good but yes it does get 'spikes' and yes they are more noticeable when there are no signals.

It may be an AGC/ALC problem in the radio, I'm not sure

That aside I can't fault the radio. It works very well.

I'm relieved to hear you say that delboy. So it must be the nature of the grant and not just my radio. I can live with that. Just didn't like thinking I had a bad one. You're right, it's a great radio other than that one small issue. I love mine. hope I get to talk to you from across the pond sometime.

The Grant 2 has been selling really well over here. I'm guessing it will be the most popular 'legal' radio.
