Re: Base Station Build
Hey, right on. I look forward to following your posts and progress on it.
I totally understand your thoughts on wanting a bigger radio. Back in the day I drooled over 'Big Radios' until I got one. Since then I've been bothered by having a smaller radio. I think some of the best QSO's I've made was when I ran my Philly made 148GTL in the shack with my D104-TUG9 mic. Nobody could tell the difference between it an a Cobra 2000 except me. Albeit it's really nice having easy to see meters.
Best of luck

Re: Base Station Build
I like yamaha's idea of overlaying the face plate. Here is a pic of a mobile radio that was made into a base, same idea, this Pal model was a bad radio, didn't last very long after the FCC found out it could transmit on the VFO with just the removal of a diode. It even had a built in RF preamp (+10db). If I remember any others I'll post them too, kind of give you an idea for how to go about it.

I just need to cut out the holes for the volt meters and waiting for the 4 pin mic plug to come in the mail. this base station is almost done. Ill use some acetone to get the marker marks off when im all done.
