Amateur license study material

A couple of members were interested in study material. I have only read the General study guide but imagine the others will be just as helpful.

They should check their local public library, my local had the ARRL Technican and General license manuals , I later bought the Extra and after getting my upgrade donated it to the library. They also have the latest ARRL 2014 Handbook plus other Amateur related books. There are smartphone apps available as well, both free and for purchase for a couple bucks.

The android app Ham Radio Study is what I used to get my Tech and General. It doesn't necessarily teach you much, it is all about learning the questions and passing the tests, but it got me my ticket. If you are the person who wants to get the license and get on the air and then continue learning the ins and outs it is a great tool. If you want to buckle down and study the ins and outs first before testing then a book and/or class is the right way to go. Can't go wrong either way, just depends on the person doing it.

If you are on the go and can't get near the computer, get the Gorden West study book which comes with audio tapes. It gives you the question and answer and is clearer than the ARRL books. I could not get near a computer at work so I studied the book on breaks/lunch. Good reading too if you want to take the time.
