Reasently bought a AR3500 in good condition ..love the old radio and its broad range of freq. The best part was it was only a hundred dollars.. then at the same place (yard sale) a new or almost new sears road talker SSB still in plastic wrap for 50... and it works..booklet says 1977 ..now that was a good find.

Silver Eagle, I've noticed you recently purchased the new President Lincoln 3 and you have been using it for about 2 weeks.. What are your comments on the radio and how does it compare to your other radios.. has it meet or exceeded your expectations?
Thank you

rating my radios performance wise and QC wise too the Lincoln is far more the best of the 4 I've had thus far. haven't seen it in cold tempature yet but right now it stands alone. I'll put it this way I used to swap my radios out from time to time because I liked them all for different reasons. I don't think I'll be doing anymore swapping out. I've actually gave my 99v2 away to my father. the Grant 2 comes in 2nd because it lacks the features and SSB recieve drove me crazy on the grant. it sounds more like electrical pops than white noise. the lincoln has excellent SSB recieve. can't find a flaw yet in the lincoln. the 980 is a good radio there's just not anything you can do with it so I'd put it third. it's made very well is why. the 99v2 It just had to many bugs so I put it 4th out of my 4 in that order. never was happy with the 99v2 because of bugs. right now the lincoln is the best in every category from looks, performance, name, extra features And QC.

Thanks for the great review. I'm glad you seem to have found the perfect radio in all categories. I'm wondering how it compares to the optima mk3 which has had many great reviews as well.

snagged a couple more radio's within the last few weeks,

Here is a Kenwood 140S I got out of NY recently :

The +3 sounds fantastic on it BTW.

A longtime friend needed some fast cash and I couldnt resist his 300.00 price tag on his year old 2995dx :

Added a +3B I had laying around, they matched up nicely.

I just sold my 2995DX. It was a said day or two around here, I am lying, it still is. Its been a great rig for many years. I sold it because I have a 2970n2 in the truck and was getting an all mode all band rig. The throw down on the RCI was very effective compared to the real Ham rig. I see the quality of the Ham rig but there is a distinct difference in the call out response with the RCI, I know the 100 watt difference is negotiable but the return effect is huge. The ssb on the 2995DX was real good for a CB outlaw rig, even on the 10M it got 5x5 or 5x7.
I see you have a 897D as well, thats a nice do all rig!

Tax time is fast approaching, I have my eyes set on an Elecraft K3.

The 590 is real nice! That RCI will slide up to 100% and hold it with little effort but most abuse it, LOL

About a month a ago I purchased a LP100A digital vector watt meter with the 5kW coupler. I haven't got a chance to explore the software capabilities yet, but so far I love this meter.

I've been tossing around the Cobra 29 LX, the Uniden 980 and the Galaxy 979 for my truck. Decided on the Galaxy 979 after reading the reviews and buyer comments from several sites. I'm old fashion on the looks thing and the big meter is a plus for me.
I was expecting a lot smaller chassis than the 959 however there is only a 1/2 " difference side to side and front to back.
The meter and the channel indicator do override the faceplate at night as has been noted and the TX/RX light burns a hole in my brain, ultra bright but I'm not complaining just making an observation. I don't have any plans to open either this one or the 959 other than to look around. Next up I will have to jump bad on the little wil and get a better antenna.

At last I finally got my Super Star 158EDX. Got her installed in the cabinet, wired up and working. The deadkey is too high for my liking at 5w but I'm sure some one on here know how to lower it to say 2w or so. Never fooled with any super stars before so I'm asking first rather than fry something. 73s Karl

Bought 4 New Tubes for my Amp from k5svc on eBay...NIB/NOS for $25 ea. and a Custom mouse pad from collectiblz_4 also off eBay for $14...Both guys were up-front and honest to deal with...May order some more tubes from k5svc just to have for spares, while he still has some...Guy has "cases" of New Tubes of all sizes, ones I needed everyone else was asking anywhere from $25 to as much as $80+ for ones that were "like-new"...

I have had the old school DX55V for about 2 decades with zero problems besides the typical Galaxy cold weather drift when first fired up. Nice radio.

Commtron CX Neat radio came factory with normal 40 ch., Upper 40 and UK 40ch. Also has a switch for AM and FM. Needs a good cleaning but has never been touched as far as I can tell. Still has the wax in all the slugs and the limiter is intact!! Keys 4 swings 18-19. No plans on anything except cleaning and lubeing the controls along with a new paint job as the covers are kind of ratty. All in all one happy radiohead here. Cant do much better for a roadside find.

I don't keep a lot of my radios. I've lost count on how many I've had. There are several that I wished I had kept. My current inventory is very humble compared to some of you. I've got about 6 of the various models of GE mobile radios. I've always wanted a GE 3-5826B SSB radio but haven't laid my hands on one yet. Three of my favorite radio that do still have that I bought new is a Cobra 2000 GTL and a GE Superbase 3-5875A. I also have a very nice Siltronix 1011D that still works great. I've been trying to figure out how to wire a non amplified D104 to it for the past 3 days.
