I have an SRA-198 on my Cobra 29LX right now and have heard what it sounds like before and after the radio had some work done. It has the cleanest sound I've ever heard from a cb mic. I just bought a spare one yesterday just for the heck of it. $21 w/ free shipping.
And BTW...keep the 29.

Put the 29 in your truck like you said and buy a lighter plug and magnet mount antenna for the 19 and keep it as an extra. You can let a friend use it if you are traveling together.

Yep! That is why I keep at least 4 working radios, each with it's own proven mag mount antenna, ready at all times. You never know when you might need them.MDYoungblood wrote:Put the 29 in your truck like you said and buy a lighter plug and magnet mount antenna for the 19 and keep it as an extra. I came in late to the conversation. To get back to your original question: I would keep the 29 LTD; the Cobra 19 would be a good radio to use as a wheel chuck if it had a metal case. Since it is garbage, and plastic, you may consider using it as an emergency radio to look for another Cobra 29 LTD made in The Philippines as a back up radio.

Respectfully as always,

Most of the cobra 19s are junk. A very few from the mid 80s were ok. If its a 19x or 19xs save it for emergencies. If its any other version you can either A. use it for learning about radio theory and repair. B. experimental stuff like echo boards, noise toys ect. C. put it in a garage sale [if you have no conscience] D. trotline weight or my personal favorite give it to someone you dont like and who really doesn't need to be on the air anyway. Just my own oppinion but the facts are that they are very unstable and known for jumping frequency, sound horrible even with the limiter intact, are underpowered usualy 1w D.K. swinging 2-3w. And lastly they are cheaper to replace than repair. Like I said I dont like them. I have one 19dx ultra 4 that I use just for trying out different things and one 19xs made Feb. 1985 that lives in my radio museum. It has no mission in life other than to show how radio technology has evolved over the years.
