Why was locals rolling with skip
Why was locals rolling with skip
I have been cb'ing for a long time, but this was a new one on me, or I never paid any attention to it. Last night @ almost 11:15 pm, I turned on 23 am for some local chatter. I knew skip was still running faintly, and I could hear locals I talk too but I could not believe their signal was waving just like the skip signal does, there and then gone. I changed channels and checked the swr to see if everything was normal, and it was. I turned the radio off for about 5 minutes or so and when I turned it back on same thing, so I went to bed. If someone can tell me that locals were locked up in SKIP WAVES or what ????? I thought I had seen it all until last night.

Conditions! It happens here every so often. I've had times that I can't talk across town. And then the next day it's back to normal. Maybe weather or atmospheric changes. Mother Nature can make some weird things happen!!

Re: Why was locals rolling with skip
Conditions have been odd the last few days. Short skip has been coming in from Illinois, Kentucky and Tenn. along with the east and southern states the same time. Even some stations in the southern part of my state were coming in and out. Don't hear that happen very often, I am sure everyone else are experiencing the same thing.

Same here around Central FL! It's wild to hear GA, all the way up to NY, and some of the other states above them as well as Canada and a bit of Mid-West and even West Coast thrown in. It seems at night is when the conditions have been good here for N/S dxing. And that's like said, it's from just above the state line of FL up and west to KY, TN, and OH. Get it while you can. I like the night stuff better this time of year, less jerkoffs, but then again it's less states and countries!! Anyway, just my experience the past few nights anyway.

It actually happens a lot if the signal crosses large bodies of water, I see it when I'm talking across the bay to the eastern shore stations.

Just conditions. I was north of Dallas a few years ago and talking to a guy in Oklahoma City like he was a few miles away. I've gotten some short skip into southern texas a few times too.

I didn't turn the radio on last night, prior few nights it's been really good N/S and a bit of westward stuff mixed in.

Re: Why was locals rolling with skip
We were getting "picket fencing" a few days ago. Local sounded like the signal was trying to pass through fence slats. Weak where the slats are, strong where they're not. This is a phenomenon that you hear happening very rapidly and is more common on much higher frequencies.
