Uniden wireless mic

#358356

Post by Whiskey Man »

Just wondering if anyone has tried the wireless mic for the 980 radio. I'm wondering if it will key up an amp. TIA!

yes if the amp is hooked to the radio,, works same as a corded mic,, doesn't sound that great in my opinion.

I agree, I heard one and was not impressed, even after the modulation in the radio was adjusted. The radio is what keys an amp even if it only has 50% modulation.

So I'm thinking that's the reason for the amp, to increase modulation. Are you all talking about the mic sounding bad barefooted or with an amp? Everyone knows these 980's are weak even with the stock mic but will a box make the wireless mic sound better?

an amp has nothing to do with adding modulation, or changing how you sound. that amp adds WATTS,, but should not be changing your modulation level or how you sound. the wireless mike that I tried just had a muddy sound to it

friend of mine has a 980 with the wireless mic and parked his car at the local bar and walked in and talked to us from inside the bar, mic sounded and worked good. If i remember, next time he does that, i will video gate him on it and let you decide how he sounds. He does run an rm italy amp with the 980.

Yeah well you got to admit, it would be cool to go next door and take your radio with you! Good idea on the gate dirtyjob, I think I'll google it to see if there's anything out there.

I'm just now seeing this gate dirtyjob and it sounds good to me. I couldn't stand it and bought one and with talkback it sounds like me. I took it next door over a 100 ft. away and it worked good but I do have to kiss the mic for the best modulation. Thanks for the video.

I would be interested to know if it will work on other radios. Having never seen one I would assume that one part screws to the mic jack and the other is a wireless headset. If so is it 4pin or 5 or 6 pin?

Just checked them out. Aparently they only work with radios like the uniden 880,980 ect. Acording to the reviews I just read one of the mic jack pins powers the base unit. Not a problem if you're handy with a solder iron. Kinda pricey so I will have a hard time justifying why I want one but maybe one day.

I have one of these mics on a 980SSB using as a base and I absolutely love it. I can sit in a lawn chair having a nice adult beverage and cooking on the grill and still chew some fat with the locals. I did some recordings of this mic from base to mobil and it sounds real good. It is kinda pricy but with the freedom it gives on a base setup, its worth every penny.

The only draw back for me to having a cordless mic is when you get really upset and throw it - you might have to pull over to find it.

Good video, I talked to a chap a few times who had a wireless headset using it on cq100, he was out on his porch and had the vox on the radio to kick it in or out, sounded good.
Another unique thing was a guy running an iphone in EUROPE it was RUSSIA who had hamsphere downloaded on it, mobile sounded good and another one on the Pennsylvania turnpike doing a good job on his frequency.
All these handsfree seem to work good but high in price still but I bet they will come down in price soon enough.

Hi Whiskey Man

Wireless Mics have been around since the 1980's in one form or another. The earliest ones used infra-Red LEDs, but there was problems with interference from other light sources. They have tried using radio frequencies before. Blue-tooth was the last attempt.

They work well now, but as posted they are expensive, and I was never happy with the quality of the audio on any of them.

Just my 2 cents.....You may want to wait until the prices drop before spending the cash just to see how it works for you.

Respectfully as always

They aren't bad mics, I drilled my mic hole out a bit and it seemed to help as well. Good clean, clear mics. And the distance is good as far as range away from the radio is!!

I have been wondering the same thing too. I want to think that it can be wired to work with any cb radio but there's very little about any sort of modifications on the web. Makes me wonder if it can be done at all. Shouldn't it be as simple as re-wiring the Uniden mic and providing power in order to get working in any radio? I'm just wondering since I just purchased a refurbished Uniden Grant XT fot $60.00 (in transit) and a wireless set up seems great for a base set-up.Of course in a perfect world, I could simply plug the mic in and it would work but of course, the mic has six pins while the Grant XT has only four I believe.
