Final QSO Sent

Death of an icon.
Love him er hate him, 4444 has sent his last QSO.
I heard yesterday that 4444 had passed. Not wantin to propagate any rumours, I waited until I could confirm.
Accordin to a feller I talked to today, 4444 died in his sleep a couple of nights ago of a brain aneurysm. This same feller said he paid his respects @ the funeral home.

I hope it's not true. I heard a similar rumor last year and it turned out to be false. I had the privilege of talking to him a lot in the past few years. I liked him very much. He was a class act in my opinion. If it is true this time it's a sad day for radio. Maybe someone from the LA area can confirm?

He was a good dude and I think people get jealous of ones that get out over everyone else at times. But at any rate, every qso I ever had with him was very cordial and he never bothered me other then to give me an occasional laugh at best!! R.I.P. Yes to not hear that saying any more will be a blessing to some but not to all, I talked to him on just about every channel he would get on, he was my east/west barometer for propagation. Art, you will be missed but you, that 5 element V Quad, 5K amplifier, and the antique Bugatti will always be remembered.

Same here MD. He was a good dude in my book and was just making the radio a fun place for some. He wasn't hurting anyone. Maybe made some jealous with having what he did. Who knows. At any rate he will be missed my many I'm sure.

Sad to say but it is true. I just found his obituary online. It's a very sad day indeed. I'll really miss ole 4444.

I personally didn't know him but condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.

Talked to him many times and he was great person to talk to. It was interesting to hear him sign on and talk about his $35 Obama radio. Many of our local radio enthusiasts talked to him also. He will certainly be missed from the radio community.
