converting from 4 to 5 pin
Is it hard to change a mic connector from a 4 pin to a 5 pin or should I just go and buy a good five pin mic.
I would rather pay an experienced tech $10 to rewire a mic rather than fight the wires, solder, smoke, and burnt fingers.
If your mic is 4 pin Cobra, I recommend leaving it as is, and try to get the adapter you need for your radio ($3-$5). It's very handy to have the adapter so you can fit your mic to different radios. If you rewire you mic to something like 5-pin Ranger, adapters are harder to come by.
If your mic is something other than an Astatic 636L, Road King RK 56, or something in that class, consider a new mic.

The place at which I got my adapters, is not a sponsor, I may not be allowed to mention their name, but their name is Copper Electronics in Louisville Kentucky. I live close enough to drive there, so I didn't get hit with shipping. (be careful of what you buy there, their adapters are good, but they sell a lot of junk, and their customer service is also junK)GOTA Go wrote:It's a 636 so the do make adapters. I was thinking they might. Where would be the most likely place to find one? Radio Shack or a radio shop.
I kinda doubt that Radio Shack will have them.
I would like to see you touch base with one of the sponsors of this forum, except for J & L, who may take your money, send you something that doesn't work, and never return emails or phone calls while you try to get it straight.
Is there a chance that you can stop by a local shop or one of the sponsors to get one without shipping?
If you have to order and ship, RadioActiveElectronics is gauranteed to treat you like a king, and they go out of their way to handle only good stuff.
