Cobra 25LTD in a 2007 Jeep Wrangler
Hi guys,
I was a member a long time ago but since lost my log in info Anyways, I just bought a 2007 Jeep wrangler Unlimited so I installed my Cobra 25LTD the other day. I'm able to receive just fine as I can hear all the yard guys at work plus i hooked up my other CB in my truck just to test it out tonight. However, I can't seem to transmit. The CB in the truck picks up that I've keyed my Jeep CB but I can't actually hear my voice. I switched mic's thinking maybe i had a bad mic but got the same results. I'm going to make some changes to the antenna system at some point and see if that makes any difference. Any ideas????

Hello Fordman_98,
Welcome back to the forum, if you remember your old handle you used to register before we can assist you in retrieving your old info. As for the radio it sounds like the audio amplifier transistor is bad, depending on how old the radio is will determine if the part is still available. a simple check is to plug a speaker into the PA jack on the back, if you hear yourself then it's not the transistor.

I can pm you the email I probably would've used but it's been so long I' don't know what handle I used on here lol.
I tried your suggestion of plugging in a speaker to the pa and I can hear myself just fine although there is still a lot of noise. I have noise with and without the antenna connected. I wired the cb directly to the battery both positive and negative. Is it possible something inside the radio isn't right? I used this cb in my mountaineer probably 7 years ago but i haven't used it for several years.

Yes you can PM me the email and I'll give that a try.
Okay, since the PA works then the next step is dirty contacts in the faceplate switches. It does show wattage on the other radio, right?

It says I don't have permission to use the pm system. Would I have to open up the radio to clean the contacts then? And yes the other radio was showing wattage.

Cool so now I can close the Fordman_98 account, you are only allowed one. Yes you have to open the speaker side and use a contact cleaner (Deoxit), make sure it isn't a type that will dissolve plastic, you won't need a lot. If that doesn't work than you have to start checking diodes in the audio section.

So new issue. If I turn my Jeep off with the cb turned off the jeep continues to run for a couple seconds. If the cb is turned on though the Jeep shuts off like it's supposed to. Any ideas???

Re: Cobra 25LTD in a 2007 Jeep Wrangler
Well after getting everything running half way decent, my el cheapo antenna broke on me. So I bought a firstik 4ft this time hoping for better quality. But now I have static whenever the antenna sways too much and I can hardly receive anything. I ordered an swr meter so I can check it myself. Other than tuning the antenna an other ideas??

Re: Cobra 25LTD in a 2007 Jeep Wrangler
I got the swr meter today. I took measurements and they were well over 3.0. Played around with a few things and no change. Finally decided to plug the cigarette lighter into the other outlet and swr went to 1.4-1.5 and I could receive great !! so apparently something in the other outlet is causing issues??
