102" help guys
102" help guys
Can you guys help me out once again?? I just today picked up my cobra 29 and have an 102 on the back of my truck. My question is...can you set the SW R's on the whip?? How?? I have a spring on top of a ball, and my SW R's are high. Should i remove the ball?? what bis a good way to ground the antenna?? (just to make sure I'm OK in that respect) It is mounted on the rear bumper. Or if you guys could throw me into some reading about it That will help also. Thanks guys

What he said!
If your swr is hitting 3.0 or higher, then you probably have a ground short somewhere...I would first make sure the mount itself has a good ground.
Then check your conectors. (coax conectors)
Also with the mount, be sure your useing any plastic washers, which came with the mount. If not, you can ground-out the whip.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
how i ended up having to ground my 102"
this is temporary, until i install a proper ground, but you get the idea...
Re: how i ended up having to ground my 102"
please note: that is NOT an *electrical* ground--although it would serve as that...it's meant to be an SWR ground. lightning won't ask my opinion, but the antena is mounted metal-to-metal on the bumper, which is, itself, grounded.Buffalo Soldier wrote:this is temporary, until i install a proper ground, but you get the idea...

for one thats WAY TOO WRONG and it will damage your radio.... now by looking @ the pick your antenna is probly way to close to your tailgate meaning the signal if reflecting off of it and coming back though the antenna. if you can extend it out a little bit farther from the bumper with a mount and see if that helps any.. also look up into radios 101 i have a writeup you could use as for ideas on grounding your system.
i'll remove that...
can't remove the post...but disregard that tip, and i'll go yank that.
yes, it is close to the tailgate...no other place to put it. it's a 2001 jeep that's still worth $13,000...not going to go punching holes in the body!

go get a peice of mettal and make and extension braket or make yourself a new mount get it a little father away from the bumper and the cab. dont have to punch new holes just use the ones you allredy have.Buffalo Soldier wrote:can't remove the post...but disregard that tip, and i'll go yank that.

I ran a ground wire off the base to the frame and am still getting the same swr reading. My next choice of action is to come off the bumper like in previous replies. i can talk out though and i still receive but the ant warning light keeps coming on. I haven't been using the radio allot just to do the tests with a friend that lives a couple blocks away.
